Solid flywheels ?

Clutch on my 4x4 Octavia is due for imminent replacement,has any one used a solid flywheel conversion ???...any good or bad comments welcome

Sorry....forgot to say its a 2006 1.9 tdi

Will rattle a bit in neutral with clutch out (might not if its a heavier one) but at least you know it will never break again.

How much rattle? Any other benefits?

Theoretically, the DMF is there to reduce the effect of torsional vibrations on the gearbox and the rest of the transmission.  Apparently these vibrations are greater with diesel engines.  Presumably it is more cost-effective for the manufacturer to fit a DMF than to fit sturdier gerarbox and transmission componenets.

So substituting a sold flywheel may (perhaps) reduce the life of the gearrbox and other components.  Theoretically.  Plenty of owners seem to get away with it though.

Thanks all for the replies,didn't know it wasn't suitable for the 4x4 so many thanks Mike for saving me making a very expensive mistake.
