Featured Replies

Hi All,

Following my previous post about a new 1.8t octy estate in my local scrappys... The said car has cruise control, can i take the stalk out fit to my car and then get someone with vagcom to turn it on. Is this possible ??

Cheers Guys

Should be the same.  The vRS I am splitting at the moment has cruise too, but I've not checked which style of stalk it has, or if there is an aftermarket bit of wiring to the ECU which I think is needed sometimes.

Definitely requires a loom kit to fit in the vrs as well as the stalk. From memory, has to link into ecu socket , main fuse box and column then enabled through VCDS. I would still get the stalk if it looks good as you're halfway there then. Bowders1 has a how to in projects if you want to see the sort of job it is.

I would imagine that VW Teesside http://vwgolfr32.co.uk/shop/Retrofit-Cruise-Control.htm will probably flog you the looms required, seeing as they sell the kits (which are new factory VAG boxed parts).  I bought a kit with the stalk for about seventy quid iirc, so don't pay too much for the stalk from the breakers.  Came with great instructions too, it's virtually plug and play.  You'll need VAG-COM though.

When it's fitted, don't be surprised to see that there's no light on the dash for the cruise control being on or active - you don't get one even if it was factory fitted.  I thought mine was faulty at first.  Seems weird if like me you've had Hondas with the lights and the controls on the steering wheel, but you soon get used to it.

If (like me) you can't be bothered fitting it yourself, a specialist should charge about £100 for fitting and coding.  To be honest though, it didn't look that hard a job.  I had no access to VAG-COM though and my car was in for work anyway so I got it done by them.
