Part Exchange Value

Featured Replies

With thoughts of perhaps buying a slightly larger vehicle and visiting my main Skoda dealer to book a service I had a word with the salesman who sold me my Fabia Elegance just on two years ago and got a real shock.

Having spoken about the proposed launch of the new Fabia  he said this would probably be around June or July he mentioned the Rapid Special Edition was on special offer anyway after the tour around the car and looking at the options on both the Rapid and Octavia it came to the part exchange value on my 61 plate Elegance Estate 1.6 TDI 105PS 5 speed DPF, it's fully loaded with virtually ever upgrade I could have things like privacy glass, Amundsen upgrade with Bluetooth etc, detachable tow bar (never used) heated front seats with storage boxes under both, E/L windows all around, cornering headlights, you get the idea if the same vehicle was configured today it comes to well over 18K it cost me nearly 16K November 2011 with the offer about then.

Now is it just me I am sure you with far more experience than will put me right but I felt that a one owner vehicle from new which has covered under 15,000 miles and being a return customer for the third time it would be valued at more than £7,700.

As I say it could be just me expecting a better deal but when I think about it I could have hired/leased a vehicle for less than the £8k depreciation and not had the expense of insurance, tyres etc needless to say it seems as if we will be hanging on to the Fabia and to be honest the main reason for the change was I was no longer doing the mileage so thought get a new car with a petrol engine rather than possible DPF problems, end of moan.

Good post.

I spotted that Preston Motors had 25% off Rapids and Octavias in January.

I can see the start of the push to get new cars sold or leased, there are so many deals on offer from so many Manufacturers,

& they want cars Leased, and leaving the Showroom, and more expensive cars cost not much more for a customer leasing .

The actual real value of 3 year old cars getting to a low level as the 3 year old lease cars being returned flood the Dealers Yards and Compounds.

Forecourts are overflowing with Used cars that are not selling,

possibly because of what the expected residuals predicted 3 years ago,

& what that indicated that they could then sell for again as used cars.

Trade in values of fabias has always been shockingly low (possible exception of vrs). I enquired with our 09 fabia 2, which had metallic and the function pack extra i.e. climate control, electric windows all round, rear parking sensors and leather steering wheel/gearknob, at 2 years (at the dealer for 2nd service) ,only 11,000 miles, immaculate, against a brand new Octavia estate elegance . They offered £4000, we paid £9500. Their arguement was that fabias always have Vat offer even though that wasnt available then, during the scrappage scheme, when we had nothing to scrap.

It seems the old addage of optional extras being worth nothing at trade in time is true.

Thats why I now will only buy a skoda (or any other make) now if 1. Its exceptional value and 2. I plan to run it for at least 7 or 8 years or 100,000+ miles.

Buy with the head and not the heart unless you've got money to burn.

We got £8500 for our march 11 plate vRS with 24k on clock. Settlement fig was £7000 so quite happy to have £1500 equity at the 3 year mark. I had put down £1350 deposit back in 2011 so was nice to get out a little more out than I had put in at the front end!

Sounds good.

Can i be as cheeky as usual, and ask what the Full Marked up price was at the start when buying the 11 plate vRS.

I like what you got the Silver estate at,

and as to what the Dealer was asking, as crazy as it seams, it is still a struggle to get other nippy automatic petrol estates at under £19,000

even from SEAT.

vRS Estates while still available out there to buy are stiil a great deal. IMO

No problem George. I paid £14454.32 for my vRS hatch (VAT free price and inc service pack for £99 deal).

Bargain as we already know.

the deals were there to be had, and still are happily.  Wunderbah!

For a Limited period sadly as Skoda go to new Models.

Nothing else is as good for Customers as a car that never caught on with UK buyers.

Yeah I'm quite happy. I have paid 2500 more for my estate than the 2011 hatch but this time around I'm not paying near 2500 in interest so all in it goes to show that on pcp the new 0% deal when you get a discount can be just as good as the old vat-free one we all raved about!

I doubt options are even on their "glass's guide" or equivalent to add - so they're giving you the trade-in value for the car.

If you sold privately, you could factor in the £3000 of extras, but even then, you wouldn't expect £3000 over book.

Have a check on WBAC for the ball park bottom book figure.  If it's similar, you know that's all you'll get in trade-in.  If it's way off, maybe the dealer is offering a really low figure to absorb the "brilliant" deal on the new car.

It is easily seen where Skoda & the good Doctor were not happy at selling so few vRS from 2010-2013,

but if they had sold lots of them, they would just be incurring more expenses if it is 10-20% of CAVE cars getting New engines fitted.

Top of an Invoice price of £15,000-£16,500 even back in 2010, and people drove off with them for £15,000, sometimes less.

Wonderful bargain or those that bought them and can still get 50% or more back 3 1/2 years later.

Now Skoda  pay Dealerships around £5,000 a pop for Warranty work on new engines.

When will Skoda/VAG learn to come clean as soon as possible when cars have problems, and then they can get the Design or Manufacturing  fault sorted out sooner.

At lease with the CAVE engines if 2 out of 10 were faulty, then 8 were and hopefully are still good.

Sad to see that now there are at least 3 members with CTHE engine problems.

A 5 Year Warranty at the time of purchase is essential really, even if only to help sell at 3-4 year old.
