Best unassuming road sofas of the 80's and 90's....

Citroen XM, you could get some fast ones and they're a brilliant armchair ride.

The one I remember.... in SM form.

Maserati engine'd bag of fun.

The 'Casual Loafer'

They all did that on occasion, though early DS' (pre-LHM) and XMs were worse.

I do recall riding my motorbike to work one day cursing what I thought was a lorry that was spilling diesel on the *exact same route that I took to work every day*.

Of course when I got home I found the CX sat looking guilty on the drive having disgraced itself once again.

I had a BX and as long as the pipes were treated with a rust preventive at time of fitting or shortly after it was fine.

The weak point was the octopus hose, where it was exposed under the car and the fact that almost nobody bothered to change the LHM and clean the filter.

The octopus hose would be covered by the plastic undertray these days, so it wouldn't get snagged by large debris on the road.

Excellent system IMHO.

The reason the brakes felt on/off, was that they were fed LHM which was of course driven off a pump on the engine.

That's a lot more power to move fluid that just a servo.

I have never seen a Passat W8 on the road but must be one of the ultimate Q cars. I always had a soft spot for the 80s three box 5 Series and the late 80s version that followed it. The 535i was always a serious piece of kit...

827 Vitesse Fastback, for a bit of large capacity V6 wafting :)

This PetrolBlog article also covers this thread pretty well. Great site if you're interested in some nostalgic motoring...

Also reminds me how rarely you see these about now! Can't remember the last time I saw one, certainly a Fastback. There's a later Sterling coupe I see locally once in a blue moon, but apart from that....

The earlier version, less a couple of cylinders.
