Lowering?

Featured Replies

Ill try to keep this short. My g\friends cousins man owns a garage. He has had every car you could imagine so hes dealt with a few dealers in his time.It was because of him that i got the rs4 alloys on my Fabia vrs as i seen them on his TT.Anyway when he seen the new alloys on the car he said they looked really smart but he thought the car needed lowered.I have always thought that the vrs could have been a lot lower even with the standard wheels on.He said that Skoda may well be able to lower the car for me using different springs from maybe one of the other manufacturers under the VAG umbrella and because its proper parts fitted by them it wouldnt invalidate my warranty. What do you guys think? Also i was on at him about remapping and his mate had a gt tdi golf which he had remapped and vw said thta because it had been properly and professionally done it would effect his warranty. If this was the case with Skoda i would definately get mine remapped.Again what do you guys think\know on these two issues.

Thanks in advance.

Blair.

The remapping I think is a load of carp ;) In Europe I believe Skoda offer official warranty approved remaps but not here. As for the lowering, I don't think any cars in the VAG stable use significantly shorter springs .... I'd vote for the Eibachs, but if your warranty is really important to you you best discuss it with your local dealer first :D

Thanks Chris.Surely the likes of the v6 4motion golf or the r32 is lower?I dunno much about lowering at all really.I dont want it so low you cant get over speed bumps.Maybe 30mm or something. Is there anyone on here whos dealer has accepted mods without it effecting their warranty?

Probably are but..

1. They have different suspension

2. The weight of the V6 is probably more than the diesel so the springs would have the wrong spring rate anyhow.

Like i said dont know much on this so excuse my dumbness :D .

surely not everyone on here whos modded their car has had the car more than three years.Either that or they dont care about warranty.Or do some dealerships have different views on mods.I know that the Skoda dealer in Kirkcaldy had a mapped vrs as their demo car but they were really rude\abrupt so i went elsewhere.

Some do have different views on mods.

But most see it if you have lowered springs it shouldnt effect all of your warranty, only that relating to the suspension and maybe rattles etc inside.

Hmmm. That could be a problem as i have rattles a plenty in my car.Going on hols in two weeks so i was going to give them the car while im away to fix the noises then i was thinking of the switcheable star remap and lowered. If say i was to get it lowered and they said it would invalidate part of my warranty is there any major expensive stuff that could go wrong?I just dont want to end up forking out a fortune if something breaks. Thanks again

I have no warranty technically and my car is not even one year old, however I do have a mod friendly dealer that turns a blind eye to most of the work i've had carried out ;)

I would opt for some aftermarket lowering springs e.g. Eibach, I have fitted them on mine - much less dive/pitching under breaking and hard cornering and no difference in ride comfort. Other VAG springs either wont fit, will have the wrong spring setup or wont be any lower. You need to get aftermarket springs, it's as simple as that. Remember though that just uprating the springs will mean your shock absorbers won't last as long due to the extra stress.

As for remaps, I would do a search; it's been covered many times before and there are numerous well respected companies which offer tuning products which can be removed when it comes to servicing/warranty time at the click of a switch.

Hope this helps
