24 hours test drive of Octy II

Featured Replies

I've currently got a 1.6 FSi in Red on a 24 hour test drive.

I'm generally impressed with what the car has to offer, considering its a base spec. The 1.6 is a little under powered for the size of the body but driving back home on the motorway, it was smooth. The car would make an excellent cruiser as it is very quiet and comfortable. The only down side is that it feels a little "bland".

I'll report back on a full review when I have handed the keys back, but I am quite happy with it. I dont think it has the same character as my current vRS, and my worry is that the new one maybe along the same lines, which I think if true, Skoda may have dropped the ball with the new Octy II vRS.

Full report to follow :)

Think you may have picked the wrong one to try, the setup and general feel of the car will be different in the new vRS.

I'm sure there will have been extensive testing witth the chassis & suspension setup before final build.

Trouble is, you ony get the 1.6 for a 24hr test drive. I tried to get a PD140, but the dealer was having none of it.

I've got a Superb Elegence Tdi Auto at the moment, half way through my 24 hrs,160 miles so,far. will try to get another 300 on by 10am tommorw, just of to set my alarm

When i thought about getting an octy 2 i also thought the car would be bland and boring, it just doesnt feel as special as a vrs. Its a great car, very capable and does everything you could ask of a car,but then so does a ford focus. Theres just something missing. I did think the new vrs would bridge the gap and fill that little hole, not so sure after seeing the pics that the vrs 2 will be as popular.

The octy 2 is very nice and miles ahead with it interior looks and feel. Got a couple of niggles on mine that need sorting but hopefully its going to be with me for a few years yet. I think it makes a great buy, a bit pricey if you spec it up, but i would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a spacious practical family motor, and in diesel form its plenty fast + cheap to run.

Just hope its going to get spotted (was it you) like the vrs does :)

I ve got a Octavia 2 2.0Tdi elegance on a two week test at present. It was given to my company for everyone to test, but they turned their noses up at it, prefering poverty spec Audis and BMWs. So not looking a gift horse in the mouth I ve got it for the whole two weeks.

Quite like it. I have had a Honda Accord Executive and a Vectra Elite on demo, but so far prefer the Octavia. Got a Astra SRi coming on friday when the Skoda goes back.

My only problem with the Octavia is the seats and it doesn't seam as special as my present car, a octy vRS. Maybe see if I can stall my company for when they need a decision frm me.

I can't imagine the new 198 bhp turbo vRS would feel bland like a 1.6 FSI !

My 2.0 FSI is freeing up a bit now [only 800 miles so far!] and it is already delivering punch when required. Trouble is I'm using the 6 speed box like a 4. First, second and third to get going, then into top!

If you local dealer does't have the diesel version try another dealer. I had the 1.9 tdi for a two hour test and the 2.0 tdi for 24 hrs.

Yes - you should be able to get hold of a 2.0TDi for 24h drive. I got an Ambiente 2.0TDi from the 24h test drive pool as a courtesy car when my Superb was being serviced, because they'd stuffed up and run out of Fabias. Turned out well for the dealer though - I ordered one within a couple of weeks!
