Power Steering Issue -

Featured Replies

Thanks to everybody for your input and advise.

I got into the car today and bingo... the power steering started working!!! After checking the car, i think due to the adverse weather we have been having, the steering angle sensor had got wet and just needed drying out.

Not back to not swearing at my car and enjoying my car again.

Thanks again

Rob

Mine did this last week, however it soon went again I would recommend checking it anyway im having too now

You can get to the plugs on the pump by removing the passenger fog light.

The power steering has failed again and have spent this morning replacing the steering angle sensor and...... Nothing! The power steering still isn't working. Would this mean the pump is now the culprit??

Yes.

Take a step back. Have you checked the fluid/fuses/power at the pump? Did you order a new sensor by VIN from a franchise dealer? If not did you at least get a main dealer to confirm the p/n you need? When you fitted it up what sort of condition was the pump in? The plastic case holding the foam normally fails by 10 years in, it then just retains water. Driving a PAS car without PAS is a bad idea, driving one where it cuts in/out is even worse as you've found, now consider if it had resulted in an accident.

As for guides it's in the guides section and the diagnosis/things to check have been posted multiple times, I know this because I read them and posted my experiences/costs/parts no's afterwards. Multiple versions of the angle sensor exist depending on the rack/options so it needs to be ordered by VIN.
