Changing Spec After Order Date

Featured Replies

Changing options, spec etc once the car has been ordered really is a minefield for dealers.

If you can change your order, unless there are production issues it shouldn't move the car back on its build week.

Then you have build times, which at present are good for what they have been. If you can't find a car that's already been built then a fresh order it is, rule of thumb at present will be 8 - 12 weeks but (for us at least) it seems to be closer to 8 and that's including delivery of ~3 weeks. This is where it can get tricky - if you're working on say 8 weeks, less 3 weeks for delivery that's 5 weeks from order to build, bear in mind that the factory want to get that order lined up WELL in advance to save any **** ups. On average at the moment cars are going from status 10 (accepted) to status 20 (confirmed to be built) within 2-3 weeks from order BUT the order will usually be locked in the system BEFORE we can even see that it is.

It's not like it was 2, 3 or 4 years ago when build times were anywhere between 3 and 9 months.

You'd have to say now that if you are looking to order a car, make sure the spec you order is what you want, just to save any heartache a few weeks later.

It sounds like I was even more fortunate than I realised to be able to add SmartLink after three weeks. The option didn't even exist when I placed the order. It would be nice if they could manage to get the configurator working again so we could actually see what the current options are, as the new brochure is completely untrustworthy.

I ended up having my windows tinted after delivery.

  • 2 weeks later...

Interesting stuff. Skoda were very helpful indeed but it's understandable given all the criteria explained to me by SUK and these posts.

Could be a blessing in disguise as I was pursuing this solely for the 19 inch alloys. However I intend to run the 18 inch wheels with winter tyres and buy a second set of wheels for the summer. Now off to the wheels section to gather some knowledge. Better get my freedom pass sorted so folk will talk to me ;)
