Changing Spec After Order Date

Featured Replies

I've just spoken with my dealer about adding two options to my order for my vRS. I placed the order on 23rd December and I want to add colour-maxidot and the sunset glass. Apparently, because the prices have changed since then (new prices becoming effective on 1st January) the cost involved in added these options is astronomical (£500 for colour maxi-dot). Has anyone else heard this because I had otherwise read that it was possible to change the specification after the initial order?

Hi I forgot to add the spare wheel on my order and was charged £75.

Rob, I reckon the stealers are always gonna try to fleece you but, with the price rises and especially the servicing & 0% stuff they've pretty much gotta over a barrel on that one although, I hate to say it.  With the current waiting times for VRS's changing your order maybe something you regret in the long term too additional, a lot are commenting the colour maxi-dot ain't worth it and the sunset glass can be done very well aftermarket, food for thought at least.

Ouch!! Pay it separately i.e. At pick up, that's what I am doing and the colour maxi dot was the same as the listed price.

Yep, I fancied changing the colour to black and was told it would screw everything due to the new pricing and finance.

They did say I wanted to pay cash at the new options price that may be Ok but couldn't guarantee it wouldn't affect build week so I left it race blue.

I changed my order to the DSG gearbox about 4 weeks after order.  The dealer started by saying it was too late but then chased the factory for an update on the build and found it was delayed so got them to change the order.  All I paid for was the upgrade price for the DSG box.

I was wondering about calling Skoda UK themselves and seeing if they can help

Might as well try - what's the worst they can say!! :)

I ordered my car on 31st December, rang my dealer on Wednesday to see if I could add the colour maxi dot display and it wasn't a problem, I just said I would pay cash, so it didn't cause an issue with the finance

I've added winter pack to my Dec order last week and its been fine, dealer simply said he'd recalc the finest even though I offered to pay cash.

Is the interminable delay in getting our greasy mitts on the new cars we have ordered simply a marketing tool to encourage us to buy expensive add-ons that we carefully avoided when we stumped up the deposit?

We endure a 12 week plus delay for the new toy, our tongues are hanging out, we are perusing the forum, and wishing that we had ordered the heated screen/xenon lights/columbus etc. Perhaps the original budget considerations get a  bit lost?

I ordered my vRS on the 24th December and I contacted my dealer last week Sunday to add the Canton sound system to my order, he said he didn't think it would be a problem, he emailed me on Monday to say he had successfully added it to my order.

I have also gone with the 0% PCP.

Really?

I will contact SUK directly if I can.

For all those who have added items, or changed their order, what was the impact on build week ;

it's no problem to change the order but is there a knock-on effect in terms of additional delay ... ???

... perhaps no one has asked this question ?!?!

No impact on build date for me by adding the Canton system, colour maxi dot and spare wheel.

It's a gamble, I was told by John Good at SUK that it can reset your build order and put you back to the queue, and it's impossible to know beforehand.

I'd have thought just by ordering a VRS you've shown a willingness to wait for what you want so, why does this make any difference ?

Private car purchase 'v' business contract hire is very different in terms of ability to wait and hassle of interim vehicle, taxation etc. ...

I tried to change order, was told sorry too late, then dealer called to say there was a build delay of about 4 weeks so order could be changed after all.  The delay was previous to the change so no additional delay.

I had no build week allocated to mine at the time of change (having previously been given a provisional build week of 19) and still have no build week now 3 weeks later.

I'm resigned to the long wait and would rather suffer a few additional weeks than regret not changing the order

Skoda said to ask the dealer. Dealer said it was prohibitively expensive. I may well ask again.

I really want sunset glass!

Resurrecting this thread from last year to share my experience. Fleet order placed for VRS estate 29 April 15. Decided i fancied the upgrade from black to extended black styling package to have the 19 inch wheels. Dealer told lease company it wasn't possible after 2 weeks from order date.

Called SUK who were extremely helpful and contacted factory but the car now has a build date so they concurred with the dealers. I still find this really odd. It's a set of wheels !

All manufacturers work today in a "Just in Time" supply for parts from suppliers, due to this and order coverage now being two weeks fixed and two weeks tentative, they can't change the build or spec as they either have to push other orders to accommodate your late change, or push your order back, and as they have orders running forward, that may well be quite a delay.

had no problem doing it with mine.
