Boost Pipe Collars

Featured Replies

Been doing a bit of browsing and found these:

I think these would be perfect if only they were sold in the UK! Perhaps they could be modified so you don't need to screw into the EGR or could be used around other pipes where they could simply clamp together as a pair?

Anyone got any ideas on how to go about seeing if these could be made in the UK or supplied here? Perhaps an engineering company or something?

I like the look of that! you could probably make them yourself! but that will only fix the egr connection, so if it was something you were looking at seriously, why not invest in an EGR delete kit with silicon boost hoses? i was looking at making my own kit next month and all the parts are coming in at less than £110 and it'll be a unique piece.

I'd be interested in the hose depending on price ect I already have the egr delete. Keep me updated chap.

How will that clamp a silcone pipe. Am I missing something here :S

I did have an egr delete but removed it. these don't clamp silicone hoses, just the standard connector onto the egr. I'm thinking if I was to clamp the egr to plastic pipe this would need a sort of double clamp that would provide inward force. -><-

Aye, it would work for the top section but what about the other joins in the pipe? The entire pipe from egr to interintercooler ****ed out boost. The whole section is flawed. If you want to eliminate it completely then you'd have to replace the whole section.

Will do bud, ordered my delete kit off the group buy yesterday so when that arrives I'll get a price for all the parts off eBay to make up a couple of these pipes. Can either send you the link to the parts of I'll let you know the price and I can order it with my parts then.

Same goes to you jamwatn, this is the best way to fix the problem.

it is..but then you face another problem... the eml! no mappers in my area would map out the egr either!

hmmm, that's a bit of a pain in the ar%e there is a chap on here who comes highly reccomended, Faboka he can map it out and send you the maps where ever you are. :-) he'll help you upload it properly too.

I have that solution in place.... sort of.  I used cable ties to hold it on.  I'll not be wasting my time much longer with fixes.  I'm going to hard pipe and t-bolt clamp the whole system.  The standard pipes are complete crap..

P.S. a sheet of metal, a saw, and a drill is all you need to make them.  It's not rocket science.  You could even argue that the 2 long bolts and a washer on each one does exactly the same job.

i'm just pricing up the parts off ebay to make up a replacement pipe. coming in at less than £80!

Agree with you the baz, the standard setup is awful! it's as much use as T1ts on a fish!

Check with an exhaust maker.  You can use 2" or just over 2" pipe. to make up a pipe that runs from egr (preferably an egr delete) right down to the top of the intercooler.  I'm going to see if I can make up one that's a good fit.

The other option is to do it in stages.  You can buy the stainless bends with beads on them and silicone couplers or vice versa and join it all up.

There's a couple of threads on here from many moons ago about replacing all the pipes with machined couplers and silicone hoses.  They weren't perfect but were better than the standard stuff.

yeah, i'm using 2" exaust pipe.

I had a read through the old threads to price up parts, i have just ordered a delete pipe off another group buy, so will be looking at EGR delete to 90 silicone hose to 2" exaust pipe (70 degree bend), then a 45 silicone hose reducer to a coupler into the SMIC. quite simple, was thinking of doing it properly, i.e get just buy a couple of meters of ss pipe and do all my own bends on my mates bender but this will be a lot quicker and look more boy racerish! lol

I PM's admin today about making a group buy for this, so will wait for their reply but i was just going to buy 6 kits and sell 5 on for £80 each.

i think that i will get some decent jubilee clips, i've heard that these are what lets the system down, and i'm not going to bother with pipe beading as i have a self emalgimating silicone tape that will ensure once it's all tightened up it wont move.

Jubilee clips are old school.  Use T bolt clamps.  I know the tape you're on about but I'd go with beading.  30psi of pressure behind any joint will blow it off at some stage.  The silicone tape might bond together but it still won't bond to stainless piping. As the system heats and cools eventually it'll blow off.  And when you need to take the system apart for servicing and stuff, a clamp is much easier to sort out.

I'll do a little experiment or 2 and see what I can come up with.  I have some spare pipe laying around at my mates garage.

never though about T bolt clamps, was just goint to find some wide jubilees and clamp as much surface area as possible. because i'm using exaust pipe, i wont be able to get the beading added on,

will check with a few mates and see if anyone has one handy,

keep me posted RE the trial, the tape costs a fortune so don't want to waste it! lol
