water in spare wheel well

Featured Replies

I have just got back from having new tyres fitted to my alloys and when I went to put the locking wheel socket back in the tool kit in the boot I noticed the spare wheel well was soaking. I knew I had a leak somewhere because my windows keep steaming up badly. I knew it wasn't the doors cause I have recently sealed them and checked them. It looks like somewhere in the boot is the problem. Does anyone know where the water could be coming from?

I have since investigated this further and on removal of my spare wheel found that there was a puddle about an inch deep in there.

I removed a grommet and let the water drain out, then dried the well out with some old towels. I then had a quick look about in the well and found this.

Does anyone have any idea of a part number for the missing vent? this number is wrote on it - 1H0819465E is that likely to be it

Pretty sure mines leaking from there as well but i have both vents installed. if its the case them im going to tape them over!

I'm going to get a new one anyway. It might solve my problem, it might not. It's something i can score off the list.

could also be that the pipe for the rear washer has popped off.

That's funny, I found the same problem in my car today, as my windows were always steamed up. Took the seats out, the board under the boot carpet was wet, suggesting it's coming from the bottom. In my 57 reg Fabia I have different vents, so I took one of the circular vents out to drain the water and replaced them checking the seals were perfectly in place... See if that works.

Currently have the carpet and board next to a radiator in the house to dry them out before putting them back in tomorrow. Hopefully it won't happen again! Otherwise what can I do...? Get the vents re-sealed??

The vents are a really common cause for water ingress to the spare wheel well.

They have a sponge like seal that can fail with age, then water ends up passing the seal and drips inside.

The best method would be to fit a new vent for the missing one, and seal around the outside edge to stop the water entering in the future.

Already checked this bud. Cheers anyway. I've currently not got the trim on the boot lid as I was trying to see if the leak was coming from anywhere behind there.

I took the one that was still in there out and think it is ok, the sponge was a bit wet but apart from that it wasn't disfigured or anything and looked like it was giving a good seal. My thinking is to replace this one anyway. Dont think there are going to be to dear, I found another topic and it said they were about £7 each.

Ment to say I typed the above part number into Google and its coming up with an air vent so it looks like its the right number.

I should have updated sooner. I ordered and fitted two new vents (£25.48 for two at the stealer's). I fitted them last week and it seems to have sorted the water ingress so far. Its a revised part so the above number is no longer in use. The new number is 3T0-819-465

Currently experiencing water ingress to spare wheel well, in your second picture, where are these vents please. I've just bought this car, already had issues with exhaust sensor. Then on checking spare wheel I happened upon an onboard plunge pool! Wasn't advertised in the spec, and to be honest I don't really see me using it much. How do I get my motor waterproof. Any help appreciated.

Great Forum, not convinced by my Skoda!

Monte Carlo, with sunroof, some suggestion this could be leaking, however carpets etc feel dry, carpet in boot is dry, water appears to be finding its way to spare wheel well, at an alarming rate. Initially thought it could be from rear washer, but there's gallons of water!

Cheers
