Car past taxi test but confused

Featured Replies

Last year when I got my superb, it had its smoke test and passed with flying colours, this year it was only just in the pass.

on the print out it came out at 1,25 with the pass mark at 1.50, checking last years print out it had the same figure 1.25 but the pass mark was 3.

Have they reduced the pass mark figures???????

Also car passed with HIDs fitted, examiner just mentioned that the NS was slightly high but he had lowered it slightly

Yes, they reduced them last year for vehicles first used on or after 31st July 2008.

So what happens if a 3.5 year old car cannot pass and it cannot be adjusted to go any lower???

I guess you'll need to change cars.

One local council is enforcing seat sizes of 32cm so many MPVs are seeing their seat numbers cut from 7 to 4.

So what happens if a 3.5 year old car cannot pass and it cannot be adjusted to go any lower???

If it's got an irrepairable smoke fault, then it won't get a legitimate MOT and shouldn't be used on the road.

Any diesel with or without a DPF of that age should be capable of passing at that limit.  The fails usually occur because the car is driven gently and never given a good drive to clear it out, other causes of failure are blocked air filters and EGR valves.

The car being a taxi gets a good going over nearly every weekend and sometimes most days, and serviced every 10K, or 10 weeks, I'm now filling with esso, as the local one is at 133.9 like Asda, and I put a full bottle of red x diesel treatment in every 4rth tank, just wondering why nothing was mentioned about the limits being dropped

Contacted vosa, and they said that all cars built after 2008 the diesel smoke limit had dropped from 3.00 to 1.50 due to cars going from euro 4 to euro 5 and that a properly serviced car should have no problem passing the lower pass of 1.50
