Advice On Xenon Bi vers HID Lights Octavia 2007 K&L Version

Featured Replies

Hi Guys looking really forward to to picking up my car on  Monday.  Just to ask as I have been told by the Dealer that I have Xenon Lights.

How do I tell which ones I have  and where to look

What is it I need to look for if I have BI-Xenon

what is it I need to look for if I have HID.Xenon

How easy is to replace the bulbs on the lights itself.

I would be grateful for this guys.

Thanks in advance This is my new car link here

The car linked above does not have factory fit xenon headlights.

The MkII Octavia only came with xenon dipped headlights, not bi-xenon (dipped and main beam).

The easiest way to check is by taking a look at the rotary dials next to the headlight switch. Xenon equipped cars have only one dial (adjusts the brightness of the dash illumination).

Non-xenon cars have two (as above plus manual headlight height adjustment), this is because xenon equipped cars have an automatic self levelling system.

Your car has both dials so no xenon's.

It is possible the previous owner has fitted an aftermarket HID kit (search this forum for 'HID') but my money is on the delaer not really knowing.

Changing the bulbs is as easy on non-xenon equipped cars but the bulbs themselves are more expensive (but last longer). The manual suggests you don't change them yourself due to the higher voltages involved.

Nice looking car, very clean. It's always reassuring to see a car of this age running on premium tyres. It suggests that no expense has been spared during its up keep.

With the towbar and twin electrics it looks like its towed a caravan. Check the clutch and DMF (Dual Mass Flywheel) for wear.

So they only have the normal beam(Xenon) when you turn on the the lights and High Beam is the normal Halogan H7 I am correct. If you look at the last picture of the car dashboard  right side of the stirring wheel, there two switches.

1 to the far right is the lights switch

1 to the left I think is the light level switch. So that  means it's not the Bi-Xenon then.

So what Xenon's (Blubs) would I likely to have on normal beam. Thanks in advance.

Hi Sliver you read all about the car on this link here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/303367-have-seen-a-skoda-20fsi-estate-07-black-pearl-some-advise-and-help/

I have had the invoice  work done on the car as follows

1.New Timing Belt Kit and tension Pulley

2. New Water Pump

3.New Break Dics and pads

4.oil Change and filter

5.Renew Rear Shocker Shroulds

6. Remove Tow Bar

7.Full car Service

Not Bad. and the dealer was great!!!

Well that has saved me abit of worry ,if they were Bi Xenon They would cost a Fortune to replace £250 a light and have herd on this forum that you have to remove the bumper to get to the light system itself!!!!!

Xenons were optional on early l&ks so if your car has 2 scrolly things by the light switch your car has normal halogen dipped lights.

However if you did have xenons they are dead easy to.replace the bulbs as the headlight units pop put with a pulll of a lever and no need to remove the bumper

Thanks guys that 's a great help when I get my car on Monday and comes to its new home(in fact two one in Portugal also) I will take some pictures for you all to drool at :giggle:

Regards Jon

I took a headlight out in around 40 seconds earlier, my first ever headlight removal! So far thats my favourite feature on my car!

If it IS an aftermarket HID kit, just check which lamps have been fitted. If they're higher than 6000k then I'd suggest maybe putting it back to halogen (nightbreakers seem to have good reviews on here!) Or something under 6000k.
