Original parts longevity

Featured Replies

9 years old and 90k, and still no sign of the original exhaust or clutch failing.

Only just replaced the original battery!

Replaced the original discs and pads only 3k ago, but still not actually sure why tbqh. Just felt like the right thing to do somehow.  :D

Everything else apart from service items is still original too.

Staggering!

I too am staggered at how long parts have lasted. My car is 10 this year and like you still has original battery, clutch, exhaust. I had my previous car for 10 years and it went through 1 or 2 batteries, 3, exhausts and a back box.

My father's 18 year old car has only had a new back box fitted, the rest of the system is original, which along with my perfectly good, which are both Mild steel, and begs the question, why replace with a stainless steel system?

I'm almost at the point of asking if the OE IS actually made of stainless steel ?

Only had to replace the battery because the car has done precious little mileage this last 3 years (4k)

Hope I'm not going to regret posting this thread anytime soon.

In saying that. It has had:

rear damper leak and bumpstops fail. (I replaced all with FSDs last year).

Front Pads at 55k, 74k and next week at 97k. New discs at 74k, maybe replace next week.

Rear Discs and pads x 2

Rear wiper motor x 2

Fuel pump in Tank

Lower wishbone ball joint

Console Bushes, and now need to replace again along with ARB bushes.

Oh yes. had them done 4k ago too, but still some knocking coming from the front end.

Really cannot complain at all though. Best car I'v owned in many different ways, EVER.

Rear shocky plastic bump stop things have become detached from the actual shockies now too, so I suppose they could do with replacing.

Just going onto it's 3 rd set of tyres (Michelin) tomorrow.

Rear spoiler paint still ok and original on mine too btw.

mines a 2005 with 104k on it and its only had a wheel bearing and a set of brakes.

I've changed to the cupra console bushes a while back through choice not because they were worn.. and mine gets driven hard. fantastic reliability and build quailty.

My Fab's ten years old and I was staggered when I went to replace the exhaust last year that it was still the original factory one-piece exhaust. Bloody amazing!
