Replacing reverse light switch

Featured Replies

Hello

I want to get a replacement reverse light switch off ebay and then get a mobile mechanic to replace. I need to get the old one off and get the correct part number as there seems to be 3 types according to the ebay supplier.

If anyone know any different on this bit then feel free to let me know.

My other query is whether the switch is something I can access from the bonnet - where is the switch when looking in to the engine with the bonnet open.

Thanks

Have you confirmed it's the switch? If you short the switch, does the light come on?

If you look under the boot carpet, you should find an options label that gives the 3-character engine code and 3-character gearbox code. There may also be a label in the service log book. If you post these then I can give you the correct part code.

It's also helpful is give some useful info about the car (petrol/diesel, turbo or not, hp, cc, etc).

Also, get down and check its definitely the switch. my old Cordy's reverse light wasnt working and i got a new switch.

only discovered when i got under the car to replace it that in fact the rather short cable to it had corroded and broken off...

Spent an age removing the pins etc from the plug to extend out the cable to fix it...

New to all this so thanks.

1.9 Tdi 81KW ASV engine code , X plate 2001 sedan 5 door

I did try ordering it using engine code but the Ebay dealer gave me 3 choices still.

Service log details of the car are attached as a scan - does this have the info?

Have ruled out bulbs and fuse.

Checking the integrity of the wiring - this is from underneath?

just realized the gearbox code is EGS

It's an 02J gearbox so the part code is 02K945415G.

how did you work out the gearbox?  ta

I know that EGS is an 02J gearbox. I also know that the ASV engine has an 02J gearbox. EGS is only one specific configuration of the 02J.

that's great thanks - I thought there was a code I had missed.

Thanks again.

you should be able to find the cable running to the switch fairly handy, though its easier when looking up from under neath.
