Octavia 4x4 MPG help

Featured Replies

Hi, I am thinking of buying a new Octavia Elegance Diesel 4X4. What is the true MPG for one of these please.

I will be using it mainly on rural roads around Scotland, so I was hoping for the high 40's.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

only had my SE 150 4x4 for a week but very impressed with it so far. Use the car for mainly commuting across the Wolds of Yorkshire and in the first 316 miles I've got 46.4 mpg fill to fill, which is about what my previous Yeti 110 4x4 was giving on a good run with 40k on the clock.

Computer average consumption readings have varied between 42.5 on the drive home from the garage to 49.7 mpg coming home from work in the week; 36 miles.

Regards,

TP

I have had the Octavia 3 SE 150 4x4 diesel since October and it's just clocked up 5000 miles. On the daily commute to work, mixture of rural roads hills and dual carriageway at this time of year I'm getting about 42-48mpg. On a motorway run from London back to N Yorks I managed 52mpg, better than my Yeti 170 4x4, but then again a pedal bike was better than my previous Yeti.

For my 2L DTI 4x4 manual, It has now done 11000 miles. The long term fuel consumptions shown on the computer were as follows:-

1st 100 hours, at averaged speed of 34.7 mph, consumption = 44.1mpg

2nd 100 hours, at averaged speed of 33.8 mph, consumption = 44.1mpg

3rd 100 hours, at averaged speed of 37.4 mph. consumption = 43.2 mpg

the computer figures have been checked many times against fill to fill calculated mpg and have shown to be accurate with +/- 0.5%

Hope that helps!

Obtain a price from Carwow, then use it to barter with your local dealer. Many vrs owners have done this.

Well I've taken the plunge and ordered an Elegance 4x4 with winter pack, sunset privacy glass, silver roof rails and Pearl Black magic.

Thanks for your replies they have been very helpful

Broke the 53mpg barrier going to work and again back home according to the computer and not done 450 miles yet; be interesting what the fill to fill works out at :wonder:

Hi

The plumber

How are you getting on with your 150 4x4 any thing to report ?

Not got mine yet but should have it sometime in the next 3 weeks

Is that rear bumper protector worth buying and is it a skoda one or the cheaper one from superskoda also I do not know if you were aware that superskoda have now got some black stick on door trims like the mk2 octavia had as standard,You get 4 for £50 and they are paintable.

Cheers.

Hi 105,

had the car three weeks now and with regular 72 mile commutes to work and back, plus a short break to the Cambridgeshire area, I’ve clocked up 1300miles already :giggle:

Overall very pleased with the car and some of the options I selected, particularly like VBF feature for tidying things away under the second floor, the sunset glass for keeping prying eyes from looking into the boot so easily, if you’re not using the roller blind and the standard cruise control; set speed indicator is very useful and I like the precise 1mph adjustments with the rocker switch, much better than the more random adjustment system on the previous Yeti.

Ride overall is very good, smooth with no crashing in and out of potholes that cannot be avoided, more a light thump and for its size you can hurry it along a country lane if you so wish. However size has proved an issue, as I’ve found parking can be a challenge on occasion due to both it's length and width; had to turn down a couple of car park bays due to the width of the bay and the less than precise parking of the cars either side; could get in but not open the doors fully for example and with no side protectors dings are a concern from other less caring car owners.

Fuel consumption so far has been a noticeable improvement over the Yeti, managed to get an astounding 52.9mpg fill to fill between 730 and 1000 miles on the clock; just wondering if this was with a tail wind  :wonder:  although high 48’s and 49’s have already been achieved before this.

Only have one real negative which I've mentioned before and that’s been the steering, as it continues to feel tiring on the arms, particularly at motorway speed on a long run. Popped into the Doncaster dealers while over there visiting family (no dealer close to home) and they sent out an experienced tech to test drive the car with me and we covered over 20 miles on all types of road, including motorway. He felt the car was overall fine and indeed on a pretty camber neutral smooth road it holds a fairly straight line hands off, however he did feel that the car appeared quite prone to tram lining on imperfect surfaces. Recommended I give it more miles and also see how we get on back on summer tyres, plus he stated that they cannot track a new car under warranty until its done 3000km anyway, unless its dangerously out. How true this is I’m not sure but I had no reason to doubt what he said.

Your description of the steering woes instantly reminded me of a problem I had with an old Zafira GSi. I tried Vredestein tyres on it because the local tyre dealer sung their praises to the rafters, but instantly the car would tramline like crazy and torques steer was much worse. Vredestein and the tyre dealers said it was not typical of the tyres and must be a sample problem. They swapped all the tyres over and the problem continued. Eventually I got them to take the tyres back, fitted Goodyear Eagles in their place and the car was wonderful again. So don't discount that it might be the tyres causing the problems.
