Fabia VRS MAF upgrade?!?

Featured Replies

my MAF is brand new but keeps failing. Keeps turning the engine management light on and when reset on vagcom it comes back on within a few miles.

Was thinking as it's a new Bosch item like for like on original part. Is there an upgrade available? When I tuned my old passat tdi the maf was upgraded to a pierberg one of a 320cdi merc.

Anyone do the same on the vrs?

I recommend you check the MAF wiring loom, connectors and clean with electric-contact cleaner.

You could try a MAF from a more power tdi engine i.e. V6 , however, it will not give you any power gains.

It is only useful when carrying out live-mapping, where the airflow at the intake is greater than what the standard MAF can measure.

You can delete the MAF from the map if you want,I know some mappers do this on every re-map.

Much to gain or loose by doing that?

I know on my M3 it was a pig to drive and I lost 7-8mpg on a run.

Poster boy I'm not looking for gains mate. Just reliability. I've owned the car for 4 weeks and it's been the most unreliable car I've owned. Even more than a jag s-type I had for 2 weeks lol.

MAF delete her too.

Yes but does it affect the way it drives? The way it delivers power? The performance? Or most important the economy???

No....I've got 240bhp and still get 50mpg.

Did you need to install an air temp sensor or have they got one? Just a little confused into how it would work properly with the ecu etc.

The MAF plays an important part in the running of the engine, I wouldn't delete it!

I think it uses the MAP sensor solely instead, as when you run too high boost the maf can only read so much air that's coming in and if you're sucking in more air that can be measured you'll be restricting power.

Went for the pierberg maf off the 320cdi merc and what a difference. Number 1 it's reliable (touch wood) it's smoother, and more responsive.

If the management light doesent surface and it doesent hesitate then I think it's sorted the issue.

Incase anyone needs a maf anytime soon I'd reccomend this. Used the maf on my old passats as it solved the issue with Bosch ones breaking all the time on them too.

Fingers crossed I can start enjoying the car now.

BLT engines run of the MAP sensor.

Unless the new MAP has the same readings at the same voltage then I wouldn't recommend it. Bit like fitting a 4bar MAP sensor without changing the linearisation MAP within the ecu.

Just doing some searching about different maf's that fit, got a link to the merc one you fitted?

Generally, MAF based tunes are more adaptable to adverse conditions. Say, a minor boost leak. MAP based tunes tend to be specific to the equipment installed. Any changes can cause problems.

Though the above generally refers to petrol based tuning.... diesels tend to be a more adaptable lot anyway, by nature of not having to guess when to set off a spark plug.

I wouldn't go MAF delete just to fix a minor problem. For a start, you should declare a remap to your insurers. That's unlikely to be a freebie.

Not once your car is running off the MAP sensor it doesn't!

This is how you can delete the MAF.

Is yours deleted Kev? Can't remember if you said it was or not. Mine is apparently deleted.

I asked for my maf to be deleted when it was mapped but I was told he would need the car for a good few days because there is lots of logging and tweaking involved when deleting it and not really necessary unless you're going big power

MAF's used for the EGR and ASZ engines for the smoke limiter. BLT's use MAP for smoke limiter. 1.4 TDI's also use MAP for smoke limiter.

Has anyone deleted the MAF on the ASZ engine then?

I'd like to get all the Info I can before getting it mapped out or upgraded to a VR6 or R32 MAF.

Many. Simple enough to do in the mapping

Mines not doing anything related to the running of the engine, it's just used to measure how much air is being consumed for logging purposes :)

I maybe wrong but soemthing aling the lines of. Asz engines used map and maf sensors for IQ for injectors but blt engines use only MAP

but anytime you have yours mapped it will basicly have the MAF sensor so that it wont control anything (by altering the IQ limiter graph to nrvrr restrict IQ)

Sorry if that makes no sence . Brain is off today. Basicly MAF does not affect any mapping of your car sooo will not affect mpg

John mapped mine to run just the MAP as the MAF was knackered! runs perfectly without the MAF
