Hiding the OBD gadget under dash.

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Maybe you can help me.

The OBD port in my 2002 Octavia is under the steering dash.  I am thinking to order one that has a OBD connector with a 90º degree angle in order that I can hide all of it under the dash with some zip ties.

My question is if this is something I can leave it connected permanently and it will shut off when I turn off the car...... I dont want to discharge the car battery.

Thinking of getting OBD Fussion App for use with iPhone. What you think about this App?

Here is a pic of the model I going to order. If you think I need to order another model, please let me know.

Thx for your advise and help

Isaac

As an android user, I use a Bluetooth one, and happily had one of the one-piece ones sat permanently in the obd socket no problem.

Are any of the apple compatible one available in that shape rather than with a big cable in the middle?

BTW, not sure how much the WiFi one are now, but when I last looked I could buy a Bluetooth one, android app and android phone for less than the apple compatible WiFi dongle.

Only suggesting you might get a better and more cost effective solution using a 2nd hand Nexus 7 or similar, especially as that'll give you a display which is far more readable on the move.

Well its look like the Wifi model is more expensive :-( and sice I use iPhone, i need to bite the bullet

Rgarding the big cable in the middle, I just going to hide it under the dash, so I really dont care about the extra wire

So what App you are using? I was thinking on OBD Fussion App

Thx,

Isaac

As long as the cable exit clears the aperture, the Wi-Fi unit with the cable should be easy to hide behind the dash. Sticky pads and cable ties are your friends.

Regarding apps, I've no idea. I'm using Torque.

I have only today downloaded Torque Pro and was looking at a  Bluetooth ODB2 .

Gyp can you give me a link as to the 1 you are using please

Thanks

Dave

For iPhone app, Dash Command seems popular on here. OBD fusion looks interesting though.

Im 1 of those Android type people :giggle:

I've been out tonight suo nit had chance to check but elm 327 rings a bell.

I'll check when I get home tomorrow

That's the one. About a tenner on eBay iirc

Hey guys,

Just an update.

I just received the OBD WIFI tool and it turn on as soon as I conected to the OBD port in the car. it beguin to blink some leds like is trying to conect. This mean that if I leave it conected, it will keed draining the bat when the car is off.

I just download OBD FUSION AAP on my iPhone and follow all the instructions to set up the ip address, etc, etc.

So I connect the OBD WIFI to the OBD Connector on my 2002 Octavia and I can see all the dashboard dials indicators on my iPhone and its working OK

So I remove the OBD WIFI and connect it to another 2002 Octavia and the AAP say that is connected to the OBD Tool but cant read the info.

I assume that the settings on the APP are set to the first Octavia........ What do I need to do in order that it also read the second Octavia without deleting the first Octavia?

THX for your help.

Isaac

Can't help with that I'm afraid, but i have noticed that the cost of the wifi dongles has dropped massively since I last looked; last time if was £8-£10 for a Bluetooth one and north of £100 for a wifi one (typically the PLX), hence my earlier comment that it might be cheaper to buy a bluetooth one and an android phone. Not now it seems; the wifi OBD dongles are now down comfortably below £20 which is a lot better
