Drove My New Black Horse From Brigg Yesterday To Telford 42.5 Miles To Gallon

Featured Replies

Hi guys got my car yesterday what car to drive fantastic engine I have to say, teased off all the Audi BMW's as I went passed on M18 and M1 ,was fun :giggle: .

Some small issues as follows

How do I get into the maxidot settings menu

Does the car have per installed radio code so never have to worry putting in if battery is dis-collected, not in the manual folder. Have emailed the dealer about this.

How does the air conditioning system work on a automatic system that I have.I see E-Con button,I assume this is the one to press.

I have checked the lights (see my other post hetre  -octavia-2007-www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/304538-advice-on-xenon-bi-vers-hid-lightskl-version/) not xenons however the main beam is not yellow very whitish light slight purple tint on garage white doors,so may be good quality blubs,High beam is yellow.

Thanks guys if I think of anything else will post back.

Regards Jon

Hi,

Yes the radio code is on the ecu so long as the unit stays put and you only disconnect the battery you will always have access.

I assume you have climate control so yes E-Con is your air con.

I'm not sure about Maxidot as I don't have it and I'm guessing you have upgraded bulbs or a Xenon HID kit fitted as I'm pretty sure the 2007 doesn't have xenon light units as standard, I stand corrected and guarantee someone will be along to clarify soon.

If you have HID's fitted you can check by looking at the clear cover on the back of the light unit in the engine bay, you should be able to see extra wiring and a rectangular ballast if so.

So the actual settings mode of the maxidot can only be accessed when the car is stationary, but i suspect what you're trying to do is just get from (say) the MFD to the audio etc

For this, press and hold the up or down button on the end of the right hand stalk. After about 2 sec, the menu will be displayed

IIRC your aircon is always on unless you use the econ button which switches it off. If the orange light on the econ button is showing if means you are in 'economy' mode and your aircon is off.

Sarge.

Yes as stated with the Climate Control (Climatronic) as per your L&K will have the A/C is always active UNLESS you press the Economy switch, which will knock

the A/C Off, also look at doing the 'Climatronic Off mod' as it is very easy to do and is useful.

You did well getting 42.5MPG from a 2.0 FSI

Thats more than I get from my tdi in traffic...

I think xenons became standard on the L&K sometime in 2007 so they could have been factory fit but I see you have noted otherwise in your case.

well what turn a turn of events, it was yesterday afternoon and spending time looking at how the controls worked and and maxidot computer.Got every thing set up great. locked the car went into have a coffee at 5pm.

30 mins later went to start the car for a drive and guess what it did not start  :@  you guessed it dead battery. So called the Greenflag home start  arrived before 7pm and yes it was same original Battery from when the car was new!!!! 6.5 years. The battery needed replacing as he advised me to go and get it replaced A.S.A.P .

So with an hour to spare after the car started went straight to Halfords to get a new Battery Yuasa 5000 Sliver 75 AH £114!!!!

So contact my dealer In Brigg by email sent a copy of the Greenflag report and invoice for the battery.

Within 10 mins of my email at 8pm last night

This was his response

"Hi Jon

Really sorry this has happened when you did ask about the battery  and we did get it checked out,I'll refund you the cost tomorrow if you let me have you details but we will need the original invoice, perhaps you could post it to us
Thanks"

Those alloys are from the Elegance, did early L&K's get these alloys as standard?

These are the usual L&K alloys...

These are 17" Sputniks. Think they became standard on the L&K sometime in 2007.

looks like the car just missed out on them. My car was 1st reg August 2007 according to DVLA :(  and they 16s not 17s

Rare to find a dealer so accomodating, did you car come with the expensive self dimming door mirrors?

  • Author

I am not sure but I do have the rear mirror dimmer which works fine. I have to say it's a great car to drive.

There will be a black plastic border round the wing mirror glass if you do.

  • Author

Yes I have that border on the wing mirror so I must have it then

Good news, but take good care of them - the glass alone costs over £200 a piece...

looks like the car just missed out on them. My car was 1st reg August 2007 according to DVLA :(  and they 16s not 17s

My car was registered March 2007, and was meant to come with Sputniks standard but was upgraded to the Sport pack with Pegasus's.

I think the L&K should have better alloys than the Elegance, that was something that put me off early L&K's. Would have thought yours would have had 17's on Aug 2007 registration.

It seems like you have a dealer that is keen to keep you happy, and keep your custom which is fairly rare these days.

This is said not trying to cause any offence, but from your original post I think that you paid top dollar for your car. So the dealer is probably keen to keep you happy and keep your business.

The standard fit batteries on the Skoda's are pretty crap. The one on my '07 Fabia vRS has long been replaced with a Bosch, and when the dealer did the Approved used Skoda checks on my Octavia they noted the battery was a bit weak so fitted a brand new VAG battery. Other VW's that I have owned have had Varta batteries and have lasted longer generally than the cheapo Skoda ones.
