Upgrading to a Columbus unit on a 55 reg Pre Fl....

Featured Replies

Morning all!

Right I've been thinking about this for a while but for some reason whilst sat watching the Winter Olympics (no connection) I thought i'd find out what's needed in order to upgrade to the Columbus:

Columbus head unit (eBay).

Canbus gateway RNS510 7NO....No battery drain (eBay).

Will I need to change anything else as I don't have Maxidot just an indicator stalk trip?

Apologies if this topic has been killed but a simple 'you need this this and this' would suffice, muchass grassy ass!

Nope, that's all you'll need. Without maxidot the Columbus will probably not need any coding.

However, you will need the new gateway coding to suit your car. After the single letter suffix, the next series were AD, then 7N0, so what you are looking at is a very late gateway.

I can't find my original post, but note that when coding a 7N0 gateway it is done via the installation list, not long coding helper as per the earlier gateways.

Cheers Mike that's what I assumed I needed. With regards to the Canbus 7N... is this the latest update as I've found it on eBay for £37.

I believe it is the latest, but I may be wrong. However -- rest assured that the 7N0 is more than adequate for the job. I have fitted a few 7N0 gateways to various Octavias, and never found a problem. And on a different note, the 55 plate will have the gateway mounted in the easy place behind the glove box.

Ah great. I'm fairly handy with the car so would you say it's possible for me to fit everything and get it coded via VCDS with a fellow Briskodian?

Cheers Anddenton I'll keep those in mind.

Hi mate, hope you are well.

I don't mind helping with the fitting and coding one weekend so it can be done at the same time...

However, just read this as you may not need to splash out on the new gateway (although there are other benefits if you do, like being able to fit bluetooth too).

You could fit the Columbus, apply a newer modified firmware and then a software patch to avoid battery drain.

Just a thought.
