Protecting my new vrs

Featured Replies

Apologies in advance as this was copied & pasted from detailingworld so lots of detailing jargon!

All protection products used are gtehcniq for reference.

This was done over 2 days and huge thanks to johnnyopolis of C&S fame for the use of his rather spendid premises. I even managed to escape "only" just under £100 lighter too.

I'd already treated the wheels with C5 and the plan was to clean, decontaminate, polish and protect and try some new stuff as we went along.

Wash process was simple - bit of foam, hot water PW and Tardis as the tar build up was significant.

Clayed using SV Paint Rubber and Last Touch (proper Old Skool) with minimal pickup.

We then began polishing and the Makita stayed firmly in the box. John introduced me to the Rupes Bigfoot and mini air fed DA - and I learned how to polish again. Struggled with the Bigfoot slightly as I'm a rotary guy to the core and couldn't quite get the right technique.

The air DA was brilliant - loved this little bit of kit and it worked brilliantly on the gloss black A/B/C post trims and bumpers - ideal for any tighter areas. Polish used throughout was Scholl S17 (I think).

Most defects have gone leaving a few smaller marks which are almost invisible even to a geeky eye. This is a daily driver and sadly won't ever be concours - one does one's best but it's better for the sanity to accept that it will get filthy very quickly and sometimes stay that way for a while. Under the LED's at C&S Towers very few were visible and same in direct sunlight (remember that - the bright hot thing in the sky?!)

After polishing panel wiped twice to ensure gtechniq C1 could bond properly and the paintwork was protected.

Following day saw me move the car to another unit to apply EXOV2, treat the glass to G1 and small amount of black trim with G4.

EXO was interesting - not the easiest to work with initially but once you got the application and removal right it wasn't too bad at all and the results are good - rather sterile look to the paint but very glossy.

This car has covered almost 4,000 miles in the 6 weeks or so I've had it with a further 750 to add by the end of this week - it needs hardcore protection.

Front & rear glass given 3 coats of G1 and side glass 2 coats. All trim treated apart from the honeycomb lower grill as it catches too much water after washing (will use an air line on it another day).

It was my son's first birthday party same day so only a single coat of EXO applied - will follow with 2 more when (or if!!) time and weather allows.

A few pics for your enjoyment - thanks for looking.

Thanks also to John - some water has gone under the bridge and it was a real pleasure to do what we used to - polish a car with a bit of banter chucked in. Still not sure about "essence of cow" mate......

Nice write-up. Thanks.

How much C1 did you use to cover the estate?

Believe it or not less than 10ml!!

The very best combination of body colour and wheel colour in my opinion.

I'd better not comment about that "other" combination  :x .

Great!

Is there any e-shop (or supplier ablle/willing to ship overseas) worth recommending in order to source all of this stuff?

Here there is no detailing know how, aside from old school wax.

TIA

Gtechniq take orders direct and give discount for detailing world members. Go join and ask Rob to apply the discount.

Get some I1, leather and dash protection stuff too for the interior. Recommended and did that to mine this weekend gone.

Might want G5 for side windows as it allows water to drop off at lower speeds. And C1.5 top up the exo on the regular washes.

Thank you Schodoodles
