Boot light bulb

Featured Replies

Morning all. My boot light died last night. Had to park under a street light to fish out the groceries!

According to the handbook I'm after a c5w. Can anyone verify how big though? I know they come in varying lengths. Also I'd like to switch to an led bulb rather than the normal one but past experience is that these can glow when the ignition is off and drain your battery. Is this te case? Any recommendations?

Thanks!

I switched mine to a led its got about 16 small led lights on it proper bright. It doesnt glow when ignition off. I bought 2 43mm from ebay for about £4 but had to open up the connectors in the boot light to accommodate it. So I would say its only about 39mm or so. Its just slightly smallet than interior festoon bulb. Im sure someone on here knows the exact size :)

Like I said I just opened up the metal connectors in the boot light to get the 42mm bulb in and working :)

I fitted the bigger one and stretched the connector too... you can actually fit these in with 16 SMDs

it fits at an angle but you want the light to be going down at an angle anyway and means you can get maximum brightness

It makes a huge difference in boot lighting :) im now thinking of getting a meter strip of leds and fixing under parcel shelf and connecting to boot light switch for even more brightness :)

Makes the timer cut out sooner connecting more as the boot light will auto turn off after a period of time

Right then chaps so got the 38mm version of the recommendation on here (no need to bend anything!) and fits great... But still doesn't work (either way round).

Guess I'll have to go check the fuses when we get some dryness and daylight...

mmm.... i know that feeling of changing out and still no joy...

I've not had a working cigarette lighter / power outlet since i bought my Octy 2 yrs ago.

decided to get a new one and sort it out, arrived today, still not working...

the light works, but not the lighter/power supply... PITA

Could be that at some point the pipe for the rear wash/wipe has come apart and flooded the boot, damaging the wiring.  I had to have mine fixed; cost me around £60 at my local specialist for him to test and replace the damaged section of wiring.  Check to see if the door open light in the instrument cluster illuminates when you open the boot; if not, the wiring's probably frazzled.

Yup just checked and there's no boot open warning light. Door open warnings work fine though so assume it's wiring.

Will have to wait until I have the inclination to fix it!

One for the summer months when its warmer I reckon!
