Heated Front Windscreen - Yeti

Featured Replies

Is there some way I can make sure (before exiting warranty) that the front windscreen heater is actually working....without having to leave it out all night to await a frost......the indicator light works ok

Thanks

Boil the kettle and let the steam waft up to the screen. The screen heater should clear it.

I had a heated screen on my Cmax and I found it useful for demisting. Never used it to clear frost.

Cool the entire screen down externally (cold hosepipe, buckets of cold water, watering can, etc etc) at the same time as creating moisture inside (the boiled kettle idea should work).

This time of year, the screen should be pretty cold anyway though, even if not quite frosty.

Thanks everyone.....will get this done weekend

Don't know if the Yeti is the same, but I think there are two separate feeds to the heated screen in my Focus, think the LHS & RHS elements are fed separately. So check across the whole screen :) The odd failed individual element isn't uncommon, it's big sections of failed elements you want to look for.

When I got the Focus, it already had an aftermarket screen, and several big sections didn't work. It then had a new genuine Ford screen, which got cracked within a few weeks, now it's got an aftermarket screen from Auto Windscreens in it (can't remember the make, but think it's Polish - certainly not genuine, or Pilkington) which seems to be working fine.

I got up this morning, looked outside and saw that cars had frost on their screens, so I just had to go out and test the Yeti's heated windscreen. Started it up, turned off the air, fan, etc. for a fair test and left it for a couple of minutes to clear. Quick wipe with the wipers and Bob's your uncle!

Take your good lady down a dark out of the way place at night , let the windows steam up and then switch on your heated screen. If you are still in a concentrating mood, see what happens to the glass
