I have a Fabia MonteCarlo Tech 1.6tdi which I like a lot. However whilst it has been in for service this week I've had a dealer courtesy car in the form of a Roomster Greenline and whilst I think I prefer the 4pot TDI over the 3 cylinder (except the 3s growl on acceleration ) I really liked the Roomster. When SWMBO's car is up for change shortly I may steer her to a (used) Roomy with a 1.9tdi engine.

I am guessing that earlier trim levels mirror those of the Fabia2 ie 1,2& 3 etc although if not maybe somebody will elaborate.

I'm also going to be looking for a used 1.9TDi in a few months. Yes, the trim levels of the earlier ones are 1,2 and 3 and are the equivalent to the early MkII Fabias.

I haven't personally (yet!) had any DPF issues which is probably due to most of my driving being on the motorway. However I do prefer the earlier PD engines,they just seem more characterful and feel as if they'll go on forever.

The 1.6 engine in my Fabia is 'supposed' to be equivalent to the old 1.9 105 bhp PD lump and whilst it is a bit quieter it doesn't feel anywhere near as strong or flexible. In addition I think much is made about the quietness of the CR engines v the coarse old 1.9 PD engines which in my opinion is somewhat overstated. The 1.6 will do in my car which is on a PCP and will be traded at around 2.5 years but for our other/the wife's car I'm happy to stick with proven technology.
