Leaky Fabia

Featured Replies

Hi All

I've read a few posts on the forum about people having problems with water getting into the footwells in their Fabia. The shocking weather we're having isn't helping!

I took my Fabia (2004, 1.4 Elegance) to our local Skoda dealer in Epsom and asked them to take a look. I was getting a lot of (an inch or two) water building up in the passenger side of the rear footwell, which led me to believe that (at least) one seal needs to be replaced. The car is parked on a slope, so not unusual to see the majority of the water at the back of the car.

I got a call from the garage today who told me that both rear seals need to be replaced BUT in order to do this, they would need to replace both window regulators and the whole repair would cost me close to £550!!

I feel like I'm being led up the garden path here. I've not read any other comments from people saying that they've had to replace the regulators to resolve this problem. In fact, I've seen plenty of people say they've done a DIY job to repair the problem (that option isn't really open to me due to time/general inability at DIY).

Any thoughts? Should I believe the authorised Skoda repairer? Should I get a second opinion from an independent garage?

Thanks all for looking

Alan

Collate as much information off here regarding the sealing of the door carriers, then if needs be give it to a trusted local independent garage who'll be happy to do it.

It really shouldn't cost more than a tube of quality sealant - plumbers gold for example, 7 x clips per door card at about 60p each and maybe half an hours labour per side.

The £500+ quote seems heavy to say the least when most skoda dealers try the sealing method first anyway??

Matt

The garage are probably charging for replacing the whole inner foot membrane which comes with the widow motors but if the bottom of the door card is wet a simple fix is put a later of sealant round the inner membrane which fixes the leaky doors

You tube : "Skoda fabia door seals fix" by Colin Wilson He seams to be pretty good at explaning DIY fix and gives an understanding of the actual problem {I would'nt use thinners though).
