  • So that just goes to show that all of the values that show on your V5C after registration are essentially freeform text fields. What the hell is the point of type approving vehicles if it doesn't appl

  • Glad you like it bill!

a 1.2 TSI Rapid Spaceback (with the 105 PS engine) is allegedly 35kg lighter than your Monte, and has an extra 20 horse power (give or take for the minimal difference in PS>HP translation) so in theory you should 'feel' like you're going a bit faster in the one you're testing, even if in reality you really aren't.

How about trying the 1.4 TSI in the Rapid? It kicks out 120 HP (not as much as the vRS obviously), still has DSG but I would have thought may be less likely to become an oil burner like the twin charged insanity spec one in the Fabia.

Good....

Returned 46mpg which will do me. 1.2 105 is pokey enough and has a lovely sound. Car looks stunning in white with the Ray wheels. Sports seat are comfy and look the part. All round very spacious and seems the same size as my mk2 octy.

Niggles.....

It sits a little too high. Controls for Bluetooth are fiddly through maxidot/stalk and you can't view mpg etc whilst using it. Steering wheel controls and display via stereo would be better.

Oh and it would look better with a black roof (this may well happen)

Overall. Chuffed.

Oh and it rained all the way back so now its filthy.

That's my only real out and out complaint about mine .... Maxidot (certainly the version on the Rapids) is not a particularly impressive system. mpg/oil temp display etc on the MFD section is all well and good, but if you're on the Audio / Phone section then it ought to be showing the last data item displayed on the MFD, there's enough real estate on the screen to do it!

edit: As for the stalk controls, they can be a little fiddly yes, but I can live with them easily enough.. the multi-function steering wheel would be nice .. there used to be one listed in the accessories brochure on the web but that seems to have disappeared now, I seem to remember it being stupidly expensive though.

Multi-function wheel is standard on the Elegance liftback now, and standard on the SE upwards on the Spaceback.

Can't get it to display or change tracks over Bluetooth either. Just says 'Bluetooth audio' when I select audio from the menu :-(

Yeah would have specced a MFSW if i could have.

Bluetooth change tracks requires the AVRCP protocol (and needs version 1.3 to transfer track information) to be supported on both sides - I've genuinely no idea what version of AVRCP (if any) the Rapid's system supports because I can find zero technical documentation anywhere :(

I did manage to get my old Blackberry once to start playing media automatically, no idea how I did it though as I was never able to replicate it and I've never managed it with my Nexus 4 on the odd occasion I do evaluate using phone+bluetooth instead of my old iPod nano.

For me, the iPod + USB Y cable wins on all counts except for one thing, because the connection is in the centre console instead of hidden in the glove box it leaves my iPod on display for any passing window smashers as I often forget to disconnect it (or, more annoyingly, forget to take it back to the car with me). I've temporarily fixed that issue by hiding the iPod with a micro fibre cloth :)

Cunning.....

Yeah I have a Nexus 5 and no joy so far :-(

Yes they are nice my only gripe is that you need the update 'sports pack' to look good and that's a costly extra....

Ive just started a thread in this rather then crash this too much.

I just wish they did a equivalent to the Monte in the Rapid, in my eyes the Rapid needs the Sport Pack and the spaceback needs the Style pack but both packs need tweaking.

The Rapid sport needs the suspension and dark rear lights and fogs and headlights that mimic the octavia vrs. Or even those used on the concept model.

The Spaceback needs the Ray wheels from sports (spaceback offer) as well as the suspension and headlights

My dealer has one of these in white also and I was really impressed with how it looked. Again however agree the ride height is a little high, assuming standard SE spec suspension?

I can't disagree. The sportsback looks dreadful on the small wheels without the style pack and Rays which means your looking at nearly 20k for one that looks good (which it does)

And fully agree with the suspension. I think mine is going back for the lowering kit VERY soon. I asked for a quote before I left the dealer!

I can see my self being swayed towards the rapid sport or a fabia monte tech estate or RS

That Sport looks great :)

It's crying out for a Black roof. Enjoy it as it's a lovely car :)

Thanks!

Yeah black roof is currently number 3 on the to do list after lowering springs and white DRLs......

drls use the same bulb as the High beam (at lower Watts).

so if suppose you cant change that coz the led lamp would not be efficient for the High beam.

what you can do is turn off the factory drl and direct the wires to i.e. the fog lights (use them as drls)

check this topic for more Info on bulbs

in my other Car, i have used the Philips Crystal vision lamps (they have blue glass) and the color is white and Ideal for a clean look.

the thing is that my other Car has projector lights so the blue of the lamp is not visible.

if you don't mind the blue color in your headlights when they are turned off, you can try the Philips crystal vision or similar (supposedly not street Legal).

It would appear they don't make the Phillips Crystal Vision in H15 bulbs.. :-(

Back to plan A

Saw a Rapid Sport today, sat in the dealers in Reading.

Had a good poke about. General consensus was it looks great on the outside with the black spoiler and black mirror caps. Needs to be lowered, one of the techs said he thought it still had the blocks in the suspension from travelling. It did not.

Inside, seats are lovely. Everything looks well screwed together, stereo was straight out of a Fabia and not that pretty, or functionality full.

I'm not sure you could even swap that out for an Amundsen, it looked a different shape.

Depending on the price, not a bad little thing really.

Just received my v5 and it says the Rapid Sport has Greentech engine. Didn't actually think it did!? Its not mentioned on any of the promotional material etc...

These cars can be incorrectly registered with the DVLA... I know of one!
