I have seen high milage examples fetch £1500, and minters fetch £3000+

So with everything in mind, im thinking £1500-£1600

Thats alot of car for the money

Sorry Mate but Cat C's are worth f**k all.You'd be best off keeping it a few years and running it into the ground or breaking it for parts.

stripping it will get you more cash

I'm in the same boat, 55reg 170k and totally reliable. Keeping it as my family car - Doesnt matter how much it's worth,as all cars depreciate (new ones the most) - People seem to go mad for fuel economy, while all the time losing thousands in depreciation.

Put it this way. I sold my '04 vRS with factory electric sunroof, parking sensors, cruise control, 116k, full service history and only three owners including me for the sort of money you're looking at asking, and mine had been fully sorted by me at a cost of well over a grand on top of the £2400 I paid for it in August last year, new belt and water pump etc, service history folder two inches thick, new brakes all round, original key fobs, excellent interior, a proper thing. They're worth hardly anything now. Unless they're utterly immaculate, low mileage and one of the last ones from 2005 then they're two grand or under sadly.

 

Hate to say it, but on V-car it's probably worth £800 - if you can find a buyer. People don't like cars on the register and those that do want them cheap. Rule of thumb is find the value of a normal one, then deduct 50% for it being on the register. Harsh but true, I'm afraid. You'd be better off breaking it if you've got the time and the space. The buyers of the parts might even be happy to remove them themselves - after all, it's better to hear an engine running and to be able to check that a gearbox works etc.

I bought a 170k car for £860 - that wasn't cat C and had no serious paint issues.  They are not worth much now unfortunately.

Strip it. I bought mine last year.... 52 vrs, 119000 miles, one owner fsh, sunroof, xenons, light washers completely standard and in good condition for £1600. So if that was a cat c I would think a substantial reduction, even with the mods. Possibly better off returning to standard, selling the mods. think a standard car can be sold easier, just my thoughts though.

Cat C and knocking from the front end you'd be VERY lucky to get 1K...

No proving the cause of the fault until it's fixed, so I'd do that now if I were you.
