Dashcam power question

Featured Replies

Hi all, I recently installed a dashcam (behind the rearview mirror) and ran the wiring down behind the A pillar trim and piggybacked onto a fuse that comes on when the key is in the accessory 2 position.

All works well except first thing in the morning when it takes a second or two longer for the glow plug light to go out, this in turn causes the dashcam to switch off when starting (it turns on at accessory 2 position, but then when power is interrupted momentarily during starting it powers down (only happens when there's a 3-4 second pause at accessory 2 position to allow the glow plug light to go out - when the pause is less than 3 seconds it stays on).

My question is this: Are there any fuses that are only live when the car starts?

Are there any fuses that don't lose power for a second when the car is starting?

Hope this makes sense!

Thanks.

PS It's a 1.6 greenline model...

Has your camera got a super capacitor or back up battery?

It may be feeding back into the ignition circuit in some way..

Loads of topics on the forum stating which fuse people have tapped without problems so check them out.

Also check you have inserted the piggy back fuse tap the correct way around that enables the fuse to blow.

It also occurs to me that the problem could be as simple as the battery not having enough power, winter time and dare I say typical Superb problem.

Does the problem go if you disconnect the camera? what camera is it?

Hi superbdreams, thanks for the reply.

The camera is a Powerucc Panorama ii, which I think does have a capacitor in it.
I'll have a search to see what fuse others have used...
