BAM engine into vRS...

Featured Replies

So come on then chaps... I'm no stranger to engine conversions. I've done a few

Latest one I crammed a 24v 2.8 from an e36 328iS into my 1989 e30 as some of you know....

Been looking into BAM engines and the fact crackin 300bhp is possible on stage 2... So I've been thinkin,,,, BAM into vRS??

Come at me blokes.. am no novice to swaps ect, May be slightly new to vRS' s but after constructive advice

Let's talk

Don't forget decent rods if you're going over 300bhp.

Can't see the point myself, the bam engine doesn't give you many advantages over your existing engine. However it is a fairly straightforward swap though, mostly plug and play if you gave everything from the donor car

Ko4 turbo as standard... everything matches up.. 225bhp as a starting base...

And from what I've seen, 309bhp stage 2 compared to our auq @ 235 stage 2.. what's there not to see a point in?? :-s

Don't forget you will get more lag with the K04 though, which is why LCR has a six speeder, but yes they can be mapped hugely strong, just be careful of moleholes in the block if you keep it spec trim.

Yes I realise that they have a ko4, but for amount of effort and cost involved in finding and fitting a decent engine that's not ragged, you could just buy a turbo to fit to your existing engine. Besides to make big power you are going to need something bigger than a ko4.

Don't get sucked into this whole 'stage' thing, it's just advertising hype dreamed up by chipsters and remappers.

I would be happy if I could nudge 300bhp If I'm totally honest.....

BBT hybrid then?.

At 300bhp it a nudge above I would 100% fit rods

If going to fit rods then fit a k300 turbo will do 300bhp and spool quicker than the k04 and is a lot stronger

Saves engine swap

Rtech are doing a 280-300 bhp offer for like £1500 at mo

Or such

£1550

But he was gauging interest he hasn't got other unit or mechanic yet so some time away

That's if you have stage 2 mods already

Once you get to 300 you'll still want more power and need to change turbo regardless. Save the money and just do a twin scroll conversion and gtx turbo of reasonable size. You'll still need all the associated stuff like rods, injectors blah blah blah but it'll be money well spent.

Nah disagree hybrid under 350 is about as good as it gets no more power needed

Fwd 350 is about the max if you want to use the power

Deffo not money well spent been there got the t shirt and it's not a good option

I think over 300 in fwd is overkill to be honest

R32 turbo engine? Now that would be a conversion, fitting a BAM is kinda just a replacement.:D I don't know of any octavias that have been done.

Been done

Is that 2wd or full running gear conversion too?

What you need 350 for ?

250 and a nut behind the wheel is plenty :D

i agree with this totally, in real world terms, the difference between 250 and 350 is negligible on the roads. having the extra 100 wont shave much off the 0-60 time.

I agree 250 is perfect but if someone is chasing more 350 is the limit

I found 300/300 to be the very best combo IMO

Russ 150bhp with you behind the wheel would still be quick lol

about a second

in the 0-60 game this is alot ;)

that's a Octy 4x4 - not muich point putting that hp into a fwd car  - other than for a dyno or drag mobile

means you hit that brick wall 1 second sooner then

i know i'm going to sound like an old miserery, but i took my audi out for a good blast the other day, and you can count the number of times you ever go to full throttle and build up to maximum boost for longer than a few seconds with one hand, i constantly find myself saying mentally to myself "less fast, less fast, less fast" :whew:  you do need to evaluate what is practical on the road, but if you are after a traffic lights grand prix racer kebab shop racer with headline grabbing numbers then you might as well deal with round numbers, why not go for 500bhp?

But a lot more people are going on track days so use the power there !!

Or go abroad etc etc
