BAM engine into vRS...

Featured Replies

... you can count the number of times you ever go to full throttle and build up to maximum boost for longer than a few seconds with one hand

tbh, that says more about the traffic conditions round the Pompey area

I used to live round your part of the world so I know only too well :(

In some parts of the uk its still possible to actually drive - as oppose to shuffle around like oap's in waitrose ;)

Even in congested parts though, the extra hp will equate to much quicker overtaking times - opens up a whole new world of overtaking opportunities

+1

living in Pompey myself traffic is a little slow at the best of times, but i take car out a lot on nice country roads or open roads when it is not always about top speed but a great acceleration.

Twin scroll conversion with a twin scroll gtx chassis isn't about huge power, choose a smaller gtx - simple. It's about quicker spooling and better delivery. Between the twin scroll and the technology in a gtx you'll be hitting boost 1000rpm lower down. Smallest gtx delivers 200 max and goes right upto over a thousand. I don't have the codes off hand but a twin scroll chassis is only about 20 quid more. Apr do a twin scroll manifold (think it's Apr anyway). Would be the perfect combination, it really would.

A Garrett GTX or a BorgWarner EFR setup is going to cost many many more $'s more than a BBT K300 setup though

Reading between the lines, I suspect the OP isn't lookng for a massively expensive project

A complete bam engine isn't cheap from what I've seen unless he can get a good cheap one and rebuild it. Get much better returns from the turbo conversion but Aye, it's all down to price. The EFRs should be nearly plug and play, they are on my ds3 but that's already twin scroll (also a k03 based turbo)

BAM engines are stupid expensive of fleabay

You can get a whole accident damaged S3/LCR/TT for similar money - if you hunt

An EFR is not plug-n-play on a 20v - they require the same mods as a GTX

That's a tad annoying, I was going to go down the EFR twin scroll way for 300-340. On the DS3 it's a matter of new oil and water lines and done (plus a new map of course).

If you want an EFR, then the cheap option is the K04-064.  Normally fitted to the 2.5 TFSI in the TTRS/RS3

Basically a re-packaged EFR turbine for VAG, comes as a complete turbo/mani unit

Beach Buggy Turbo's do an adapter plate - will do 370hp on 1.8T with only forged rods, with a sub 3000rpm boost threshold

iirc somewhere round the £1000 - 1500 mark

Very similar in performance to a  GTX2863R

Code noted matey, The EFR6758 was also one on my list

my k04 hybrid was  good set up but again if you don't do the rods it wont last long over the 300/300 limit as clive cn tuning has pointed out but I wouldn't bother changing the engine just do the work to the one you already have there are loads of potions to get you around the 300 mark
