Broken overtaking mirror

Featured Replies

Good Morning everyone...........

I have just woken up this morning to discover that some completely worthless **** has criminally damaged both my door overtaking mirrors (and quite a few others in the road, also).

Unfortunately due to this useless cretin's behaviour I will have to replace both door mirrors.,...

The car is a 2005 (55 reg) Octavia 2 Estate PD 1.9 Tdi.........

Question is  - Is this a straight forward job and can anyone offer me a cheap source of replacement mirrors - I do not really wish to go to the main dealer and allow him to take all of my well earned money out of my back pocket..........

I have had a quick look on Ebay and there does not seem to be much on offer at the mo.

Any suggestions or help is really appreciated

Thanks etc

Tom

That is unfortunate, and sorry you find yourself in this situation. Hope he suffers in some way for his behaviour.

It is a relatively easy job and ebay has some for around 60 per side with the mirror caps ready to be painted.

Also this seller has black ones for £57 each.

It will of course depend on which functions you have.

You will need to remove both door cards, plenty of useful info on here for that if you search. You will also need some replacement door clips, again cheaply sourced on ebay, e.g.

The other option is a breaker but I tried some months back with no success with a few, and when I did find one it was cheaper to buy new!

What a fantastic reply - Thanks v much. As usual this forum comes up with genuine help and advice.

Adamal......the third link is actually for new after market but oem replacements which is exactly what I was looking for so the price (whilst being an unnecessary expense due to a major cretin) is fantastic. I must have missed the ad when I first looked. So I will be ringing them first thing tomorrow for the pair

Is there anyway I can establish whether or not my mirrors are heated (I don't think they are) - There are a total of 7 wires (3 x pairs and a single going into 4 connectors with another 6 empty connectors)?

Thanks so much again for your help

If they are, two of the wires go to the glass and you would have a heater position on the door switch.

With 7 wires I think they might include heating. I have 11 wires but that is because I also have memory mirrors.

Of course even if you don't have them, you could install a unit with them. The heater bit just wouldn't be wired up...(and it might offer a future retrofit!)
