Rear Axel Beam - Yeti

Featured Replies

That Axel beam thing...underneath the rear end, that has a Warning label stuck to it, is going well rusty on the top edge

where the black factory underseal is peeleing off.

Anybody else noticed this.  Pending anything better, I've "painted" mine with a thick coat of grease.

I had seen this on some Yetis so I coated mine and all other exposed metal under the car with Waxoyl from new and will redo each time I change winter/summer tyres.

Yes the black painted component parts underneath VAG cars going rusty is common and all you can really do it to apply waxes or greases to try slow the process down if it bothers you.

Takes me back to the early BMC mini sub frame problems. After my first one rusting through and having to pay the cost of early replacement, I learned  a lesson. When my wife bought her second one I ensured it was covered in grease and a product called LPS-3 which kept it in pristine condition. I don't suppose the Yeti back end will suffer the same fate as the dreaded rusty sub-frame it will just be surface rust. So if you feel it needs it just spray some grease onto it for peace of mind.
