New guy and retrofit advice

Featured Replies

Hi guys , new to this forum and happy with my10 fl octavia elegance 2.0 PD. Previously came from the civinfo forum and hope this forum is as friendly and helpful.

I'd like to some advice with retrofitting. I'd like to retrofit the fl vrs front bumper with the drls and was wondering if anybody else had done this mod and what parts are needed? I expect this is a subject which had come up often and apologise for that. Other plans are to get a vrs rear spoiler and a kenwood dnx521dab and a custom sub in the left wheel arch. Any help on this subject would be much appreciated :)

No idea on the retro fit, but if you can I'd find someone with that headunit. My company has put them in all of their vans (cheaper than fiats blue tooth/satnav unit) and I hate it. Really slow and the satnav freezes a lot! Pretty sure it's the same unit anyway!

Sub in the boot...if putting it in the side, I wouldn't expect amazing results. What are you wanting from it, volume or sound quality, or a middle ground? As sceptical as I was, a custom MDF enclosure is the only way I would go now. I had a 37.5x10x5" enclosure built for my Mk3 Golf (needed to keep boot space!) and it sounded very good with 2x8" subs. Im going to have a go with my wagon, hoping for an 8-10" deep enclosure full width of the seats for a single 12" sub. I have the raised floor so the amp will go in there. I have a friend who builds them and he can do wonders with a small space requirement!

I've had the Kenwood headunit for around 10 months and haven't regretted fitting it for a second. For me, you fit a head unit for sound quality and the Skoda units just weren't up to it for me. The Kenwood also works well in the car (essentially plug and play) and looks great. The fact that you only need a cheap cable to fit an ipod is a great bonus. I've had mine installed with an Audison SR4 amp and Rainbow component speakers but have yet to fit a sub. I would like to install one where the CD changer currently sits but don't have the skills (or the money to get someone to fabricate one for me)!

Sub wise in the boot, I'm not looking for anything special, just a tiny bit more bass whilst maintaining maximum boot space. I've heard good things about that kenwood and recently had a play with one in the dealers and quite liked it.

That is what I'd like from a sub too. I'm not interested in massive, thumping bass just a little extra to improve the sound quality. Someone on here has fitted an active sub which sits inside the spare wheel under the floor. Here's the link:

It would be a good option for me but my amp has 2 channels spare which I'll bridge to run the sub from.

As for the Kenwood, it's a great unit, as I said. The DAB radio is great even using just the wire aerial which is adhered to the windscreen.

Morning and welcome.

I can't help with your query though I'd like to confirm this forum is at least as helpful as civinfo, which I used to frequent before changing to the Skoda.

Think maybe the head unit will be the last thing on my list as i would rather have a remap and change of bumpers (if possible) first. After reading through this forum there are more and more things now that i would like to retrofit like the multi function steering wheel and possibly maxidot but unsure if there any any places in the southwest which would fit them as I'm a complete idiot when it comes to fitting things.

Maybe go for something like this if you have a full size spare wheel?

No space taken up and a deeper sound can be achieved...

I like the look of our kenwood, the layout is good and yes, the DAB side is pretty good to (Planet Rock, anywhere!), ours is just very delayed! Touch it and it takes a few seconds to respond. If the satnav is on with no route planned it freezes...ours is actually a DNX5230DAB though...

EDIT: My phone didn't show all the replies, apologies for the same advice! :D

Ha! My DNX521 also suffers from delay but only when changing the volume - I can't find any reason why.
