Fuel pump or not?

Featured Replies

Hay people!

I would much appreciate some advice if you could,

While driving my car I have been noticing a Humming noise coming from my fuel pump area under where my tank is,

The other day my car just stopped, I thought it was due to low fuel as i was only on 20 miles, So I decided to fill my car up but on the way the car just stopped, Iv still got all my dash lights showing "OK", and no warning lights except the fuel light. Iv now filled my car up but the car will not start up.

The thing that makes me think it is the fuel punp is that I am not getting the clicking noise and buzzing noise for a second when I switch the ignition on from near the tank area,

Can someone tell me is this the fuel pump or the fuel sender that needs changing?

Cheers

Cheers Rob,

Inbetween posting my text iv been back to my motor, waggled the relay, which is clicking fine, knocked the aluminium fuel pump next to the fuel tank and its now working. but the aluminium pump which is next to the tank under the car "I think thats what its called is making a hell of a droning noise".

Am i right in saying the aluminium part under the car next to the tank is the fuel pump?

Looking at the instructions you have gave me the noise it not coming from the area showed in the images, it seems tp be the part under the car next to the tank, or if the pump is on its way out will that cause the silver part next to the tank under the car to humm loud as the fuel pump is not sending enough fuel to it?

The other strange thing is when ever my fuel light comes on the fuel pump starts making this humming noise and also every so often below 75 miles the engine will cut out like its being starved of fuel and then restarts once iv pumped the peddle and ignition for a while.

Fuel filter for a vRS is 1J0201511A

Not sure on the fuel pump.

I'd change the filter first as they're less than a tenner. Fuel pump will be a lot more.

There are a few vRS being broken for spares in the For Sale section if you want to get a second-hand one.

If you do get a euro parts pump make sure it's the pier burg 4 bar one. Their standard pattern one is crap.

the 4 bar one is about £150. A genuine vw 3 bar one is about £300.

As said try the filter first

One bar.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

It's the fuel pressure the pump can supply. 4 bar is stronger, but is still regulated at the engine by the fuel pressure regulator so won't cause any issues.

1 bar ....

Sorry I had too lol

It's the pressure that the pump puts out.
