Ok hands in the air......I never clean the car go to work between 4 and 6 get home about 6 or 7 weekends Its all about the family so we go out with our son who is 6......so don't have time to clean car.

been pulled by the police because he could not read my number plate...I advised him to walk to the front where he could read it...but I mean you get pulled for that and they waste time...............But ! phone them up about anything and they don't even bother to turn up...

there rant over and number plate still dirty same as car inside and out.......

Clean the car you minger ! How long does it take to clean a number plate ! I'd make you clean it there and then

Packet of wet wipes kept in the car.

You can see how dirty the numberplate is when you walk upto the car.

If its dirty a quick wipe with a wet wipe and voila

There is no excuse really and if you don't have 30 seconds spare i don't believe you

I just carnt be arsed.........to get to work I pass a quarry dirty roads and 2 pits.......filthy roads that's why I never wash it....but will invest in some wet wipes that's a good idea........sorted

Actually it is a legal requirement to keep the number plate clear.

If it's unable to be read by the ANPR cameras then uninsured and illegal cars would be every where (exaggerating a bit I know but you get the idea)

KEEP the car clean, you can also argue that a clean car would create less wind resistance than a dirty car so in turn would save you money :)

Oh come on, we have vets that drive round the county in Golfs down farm tracks all day, every day, for emergency call outs and they keep their plates clean. You have no excuse. Not keeping your number plates clean is a sign of pure ignorance and if someone is that ignorant then they shouldn't have a licence in the first place.

Well you've been rather lucky, if it were me that pulled you you'd have a FPN and your car wouldn't move until you cleaned the plate if you failed to be apologetic and told me to go round and look at the front plate when I pointed out that your plate was unreadable.

No doubt you'd complain if the police failed to stop and give words of advice/prosecute a driver of a car with a obsecured plate and then the car went on to do a hit and run on your car or a family member and no one got the reg because of the dirty plate.

Policeman made a work colleague do this.

Said he couldn't as didn't have tissues etc. Changed his mind when the officer was mid way through arranging a recovery truck.

Ended up with a FPN for being an idiot with the officer

I make a point to make sure my lights and number plates are clean regardless how dirty the car gets.

I would also wipe the rear lights and top part of screen to ensure the lights are all 100% visible. I would worry more about being rear ended and someone claiming they couldn't see the lights as obscured.

Oh dear Great Dane.

Open invitation for the full roasting and toasting here, but if that's your opinion and attitude, good on you for daring to express your opinion in here  say. :D

Be a dull place if we all conformed.

I likes grumps and rebels . :sun:

What if your car is stolen? How can the Police and ANPR cameras track your car down for me if the number plate isn't easily readable? Surely insurance companies might be interested in this, as they would prefer to get the car back to the owner than having to pay out.

I remember seeing a police TV program about having a rear number plate being obscured by a tow bar.

I take pleasure in keeping my pride and joy clean - I have been known to wash it two or three times a week...

Take care of the things you own - involve your son in a spot of car washing early on a sunday morning whilst giving the misses a lie in? I do this anyway as it avoids nagging, but our daughter is only 7 months old so can't help wash yet :D

Its hardly the crime of the century. Of course its handy for your plate to not be dirty so the speed cameras and various other observing cameras can track you.

In the situation of being stopped, probably best to apologise, clean and drive on rather than wasting everyone's time disputing the matter.

I often see cars where the back of the car is so filthy the rear number plate is unreadable and I wonder how long it's been since they cleaned the car. It makes me think when did they last check the oil, water, washer bottle, tyre pressures, lights etc.

I can rarely be arsed to clean my car either. But it doesn't take much whenever I fill up with diesel to use a paper towel from the pump and dunk it in some water that's invariably in a bucket there too, and give the numberplates and lights a wipe.

The bonus is that whatever the time of year, or time of day, the forecourt is always lit, so you can't use "it was dark when I got home" as an excuse.

As for them not turning up for other things, that'll be because there are 16000 fewer police on the streets thanks to Call Me Dave. In actual fact, it's worse than that. Lots of "civilian" back room staff have been offloaded too, but the work still needs doing, so it gets done by a copper.

Don't be stupid, people don't have the time to do all that. Im surprised the OP has enough time to put fuel in :o

I'd hate to be the poor sod who has to valet it come trade-in time  :whew:

I went to look at a car at a garage in Scunthorpe recently. They were clear that it had only just come in, and had not been cleaned or valeted, but stone me! There was a layer of detritus all over the floors including - I kid you not - a used toothbrush. I wouldn't even hand in a rental car in that state.

(also, bonkers of the garage to show a car to customers in that condition. At least empty the crap out of it even if you can't wash/valet it!)

It ****es me off no end when cars are so dirty you can't read the number plates and it's always VAG cars.

It takes 2 seconds with a rag or your hand.

Absolutely no excuse.

Also, since the diminish of the tax disc next year, it's going to be even more of a pull, and probably a fine.
