TV recommendations circa

Featured Replies

Currently have a 10yr old Samsung LE32 and quite fancy something with a thinner bezel and smart functions.

Have always liked Samsung previously, not so keen on LGs as a few family members have them and the picture quality seems quite bad especially blacks.

Don't have any 3D channels or films so would rather better spec than lower spec 3D.

Is the current Samsung kit any good?

Have a look at the Samsung ue40f6510 I just got one and it's great. The sound isn't great but I have the 5.1 to better the tv speakers.

Costco offer 5 year warranty rather than a year as does John Lewis. Amazon have a bracket for 7.99 reduced from 129.99 if you search the tv on amazon it will show "people also bought" and the bracket is brilliant.

I just collected one and installed it for the daughter, we have a 46 inch Sony which I'm perfectly happy with but I found the Samsung very impressive. The best price she could get was Richer Sounds.

Thanks. Have a Costco card too.

Have a surround system, which is basically essential as TV speakers are pants.

We have a 42" LG from Costco we got a few years ago and have no issue with the picture quality.

Costco 5 year TV warranty is a great advantage of buying from them.

I have a Panasonic Plasma TV, had it for a good while now, I would recommend Panasonic but I am not sure what they have to offer in the current line up..

As said above Costco is a good place to buy a TV

Panasonic are a very good make and can't fault them on anything other than price which I have always found higher than the competition.  Not had an issue with my LG (tempting fate) or the previous TV which was a Samsung.

Check out UKHotDeals.co.uk

TV deals are posted there quite often.

also use Quidco or some other cashback site to get some money off.

I think I'd buy from either John Lewis or Costco as both have good 5yr warranty.

if you buy a Panasonic from an official retailer they all have 5 year manufacturer warranty. The problem with the JL and Costco warranty is its third party.

Expect heavy discounts on existing TVs because from April the new 2014 sets generally start to become available.

If you're not bothered about size and 42" is good enough, I'd up your budget to £600 and get a Sony KDL42W705B.

Review here.... http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/kdl42w705b-201402233639.htm

Budgets fairly inflexible and having dealt with Sony before on a warranty issue on a well known fault and being told to go forth, I now avoid their products no matter how good they may be.

I was looking at replacing our current 40" non smart Sony (which I have had no issues with) with a smart version in the near future but I might just wait until the prices start falling.

Have both Sony and Samsung at present, one 42 other 48 and been impressed with them on all counts.

Been to a couple of manufacturer shows this month and have to say the latest Samsung TV's due out april-september are stunning devices!

4k TV is coming down to the masses this September to below £1500 which is a good investment in my opinion. Samsung chap was talking about 8k not far of the horizon but obviously the system has to catch up first! Good luck on the hunt!

Edit.....and I laughed! Thought you'd said £1500 . Should have fallen into spec savers!
