Is the W5W light bulb in the boot monitored by "bulb failure"?

Featured Replies

A quick question: is the light bulb in the boot of Yeti  monitored by Canbus - does it show as "bulb failure" if it is blown, or if it is replaced by non-canbus-friendly LED bulb?

I have LED's in my boot and overhead lights in my Octavia and none seem to trip any warning. I think as they are all non-canbus that it's an unmonitored circuit.

Best get some LED's for the interior :)

The boot light and none of the interior lights are monitored by the "bulb failure system"

Surely you meant to write: "Neither the boot light nor any of the interior lights are monitored…"

(I thought you were supposed to be the Yeti forum's pedant-in-residence - or have I confused you with another frequent poster?)

:)

Pedant!!   :giggle:

Why, thank you sir!

But why would you want the interior lights monitored? you can see 'em when in the cabin or boot, more important the exteriors are monitored i would have thought!

Yes - it makes perfect sense that the internal lights are not monitored, as they are obviously non-essential for the safety... Moreover, the boot light is usually activated when the boot is opened when the car is stationary and the ignition is likely off anyway...  Was just checking...

Last weekend I've installed an extra LED strip running along the parcel shelf, with coupling which can be unplugged if the shelf is removed.  The power is fed off the boot light. Was just worried if the extra load would cause any unforseen problems with canbus, and whether the "standard" 5W W5W bulb needs to be replaced with something less powerful, to keep the total load to <=5W. Seems it is not nesessary after all, good!

Thanks everybody for responce!

And my Yeti's boot now is the perfect place for reading, or ballroom dancing, or any "las vegas"-type activity which requires a lot of light! :sun:

(Should I open the tanning salon there in the boot - with maybe few extra UV LED's? :wonder: )

If it is interesting to anybody  - I have essentially followed the instructions from  Muckypaws from here:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/275617-advanced-yeti-boot-light-upgrade-quick-project-how-to/

but with few minor changes. First, the light strip (and wire) are fixed to the shelf using velcro only (running along the whole length of the strip)  - so it can be removed without leaving any trace. It is fitted in the recess so the LEDs are not visible themselves from anywhere but they provide light uniformely along the whole length of the boot. Second, the wire which feeds the power goes through the hole in the ventilation "grill" which is next to the "standard" boot light, unlike the design described earlier where the wire goes through the "Seat Belt aperture". (Thought it is best not to mess anywhere near seat belts which may be tested during MOT). (Toa  great surprise, have not seen the diod in the standard light fitting described earlier - the light fitting itself seems to be made by Audi?? Design changed?? People complained earlier about this fitting on this forum, I think? )

A nice project for the weekend if one is bored, can be recommended!

No more essential shopping items lost in the dark corners of Yeti's boot!

best,

goal
