Water in the oil

Featured Replies

So my turbos been playing up for a few days now, started having no boost in first or second and I now have no boost at all. Had a quick look at it today. Found a wet looking patch on the front of the intercooler, with water in the hoses mixed with oil. The cars not loosing to much coolant or oil though. From under the egr delete it was covered in watered down looking oil. That's all I can see from a quick look today, I'm thinking my intercooler has some how burst and my turbos away.. I've not got to much experience with problems like this so any help would be appreciated! Also from the engine management light I'm getting an error code, 'P0237' which says 'turbo/supercharger boost sensor A circuit low' thanks for any help

It's not unusal for the inlet tract to be moist.

Might be worth undoing the boost pipe to the bottom of the intercooler and letting any fluid drain out.  I do this when I change the oil.

The probable causes for P0237 are:

  • wiring short to earth
  • boost sensor
  • ecu

Good luck

Do you have a front mount cooler or side mount?

The water could just be condensation and most likely nothing to worry about. Oil in the intercooler pipework is pretty normal as long as its only a small quantity.

front mount. Going to put it into a diesel specialist this week to have it looked it to get to the bottom of it

I'm 90% sure the wiring to the boost sensor has came out the plug :)

Or the MAP (boost pressure) sensor is covered in oil + not reading correctly.. check the wiring too it + if its ok remove the sensor + give it a gentle clean with brake cleaner or similar

I'm only confident since he said it has a fmic and different pipe work, had two now were the wiring has come away from the plug, similar to the alternator wire fault.

What kind of map sensor pipe do you have? Or is it seat sport + piping.

Before my turbo went I'd been having trouble with no boost, ended up being the map sensor that was getting oil + condensation in it due to the pipework. Span the map sensor pipe round so the sensor was at the top and it was fine.

Just had word back from my mates garage, he sayed it's a broken wire right next to the boost sensor..? Could anyone recommend the best way to fix it ? After this going to see how it runs, fingers crossed it'll all be good!

Also it's a seat sport intercooler

buy a couple of genuine wires from Skoda for the MAP sensor connector.. using a super thin flatblade screwdriver push the broken wire/ wires out of the connector + push the new ones in untill they click. Chop the wire down + join the new wire to the existing wire using heat shrinks or solder

Make sure they get the ones with gold terminals, should have an 'A' at the end of the part no.

It's an 'e' not 'a' at the end, just checked at work!
