Citigo Sport with a private plate.

Featured Replies

I saw a red sport today which looked good in itself. But what made it really stand out was its expensive plate consisting of simply 2 numbers followed by 2 letters.

This got me thinking that it's,elderly, owner was quite probably fairly wealthy and could certainly "afford" a much more expensive car but instead chose a humble Citigo.

The choice of the more discerning motor buyer :D

Perhaps the Plate came with a free CitiGo

Maybe he sold his Ferrari to buy the plate, and bought a Citigo with the change :D

I saw the plate "CT60 SPT" on the dvla site for 399, considered it but then thought maybe a bit too much (both price and having a private plate).

I'd rather spend that £399 on the car or maybe just save it :)

If they are not popular letter combinations you can pick a 2+2 plate up at a sensible rate.

This cost about £2,800 IIRC. (That's less than 6 months depreciation on a new Citigo for something you keep for many years)

There are a number of people on here that drive regular or sensible cars despite having a few pounds tucked away.

They just choose not to waste it all on cars. :)

Cost of plates has never bothered me.

Because once you buy them it's done, you don't have to trade it in every few years for a new one and pay 50% on top again like with a car.

Besides, it's just a bit of fun really.

VERY similar to that BossFox except 3 door. And quite a similar plate as well.

Seems to me quite sensible to spend on an inexpensive car that will almost certainly depreciate less(in real terms if not also in percentage terms aswell) and put some of the savings made into a plate which is unlikely to suffer the same depreciation.

I am not a brand/badge snob in any area of my life and choose Skoda because I like them on the whole. But I could almost certainly afford a 'premium' car and have in the past had new BMWs & Audis etc. I now choose to spend my hard earned income more, in my opinion, wisely. I do sometimes wonder if my neighbours think that I've changed careers and now earn a bit less. I don't care what they think in all honesty but nonetheless sometimes wonder!

I am now thinking of looking for a nice private plate to redress the balance.

I've had a private plate for 10 years now, I like them ;)

He could have had the plate for years. There's a car by me with a three digit, one letter plate that I remember being on a Sierra, and it would have been ditprt cheap two decades ago.

a couple of years ago I remember seeing a plate which was basically "letter letter 1" on a battered old Mazda 323 and thinking how much the plate would be worth over the car.

My rule of thumb is if you can get something meaningful then why not - but I despise those people who make letters look like numbers and vice-versa, use illegal spacing to say what they are getting at or use carefully placed black screwcaps etc.

CT60 SPT as mentioned above doesn't really jump out at me - I think most would just assume the car is 2 or 3 year older than it really is.

I remember a guy on the Renault Sport forums got in early and managed to bag CL10 CUP - I think that works quite well.

I am planning on looking for a nice short and relevant plate. Whilst I won't be looking to spend anywhere near the value of a Citygo on such a plate it is a nice thought that in 10or 20 years time the plate MAY have appreciated to the value of a small city car.

Indeed, I paid under £3000 for BO55 FOX and was offered three times that eight years later... Madness.

I used to see the number plate " H1" near  Godalming, Surrey on a small Toyota. Have not seen it for about 10 years though.

As indicated by Boss Fox, they seem to be a good investment!
