Rapid Spaceback Monte Carlo

Featured Replies

To be launched at the Geneva motorshow next week:

The ŠKODA Monte Carlo model family expands to five models
In Geneva, ŠKODA will set a decidedly sporty tone with the simultaneous launch of three special Monte Carlo editions. For the first time, the manufacturer will present Monte Carlo variants of the ŠKODA Citigo, ŠKODA Yeti and ŠKODA Rapid Spaceback. With the existing ŠKODA Fabia and ŠKODA Fabia Combi, there will now be five Monte Carlo special models available from ŠKODA.

These sportily-designed vehicles have impressive black aluminium wheels in sizes 15 to 17 inches, dark-tinted rear and back side windows (SunSet) and distinctive design features in black. The Yeti and the Rapid Spaceback Monte Carlo have a black roof. The interior of the Monte Carlo models have a special red-stitched steering wheel, black interior and sports seats with distinct fabric design.

These special models represent ŠKODA’s successes in motorsport. The manufacturer has one of the longest histories in motorsport and has collected countless victories on the international motorsport scene, including in the Monte Carlo Rally. 2013 was one of the most successful years in the history of ŠKODA motorsport with the European Rally Championship, the Asia-Pacific Rally, the South American Rally Championship and five other national championship titles.

I expect it to look a lot like this:

so it'll look fancy, but won't handle or perform any better ?

I hope it looks as good as the Fabia MCs do.

Didn't hurt Fabia MC sales!

By the time yours is out of warranty there might be a few nice low mileage MC Spacebacks around Thecko?

Well, that's what put me off the Fabia ones.

I'm more a fan of "go" than a fan of "show"

Possibly. It'll be food for thought in 2 years time for sure. Of course, by then, we might all be talking about a pending facelift.

So if I read correctly only a Monte in the Spaceback variant?

Yes, it seems so.

I suppose it's logical, they always seemed to expect the Spaceback would sell better than the liftback (especially in the UK), so they're just pimping up a model they expect will do better.

Don't know why I prefer the liftback. I think it looks better, not to mention the carnivorous boot. Why not offer a Monte Carlo on both liftback and Spaceback? Why promote one more than the other?

I'm seeing this as good news. If they were doing a Monte liftback I would REALLY be kicking myself for just buying a sport. I suppose I still have the closest thing...for now....

I hope you mean 'cavernous' or you have a problem :D

"ALL SHOW - NO GO", seems to be Skoda's marketing approach!!

Castrated by VAG.

Seat seem to be getting more power action from VAG.

Me? I prefer the liftback too, but I think we're in a minority fella - most people in the UK hate saloon shaped cars because they can't park them :)

That being said, a Monte Carlo styled Spaceback, should it look a smart as the current Fabias do, would probably tempt me when it comes to time to change mine (I've no set plans on when that would be).

Yeah I could be tempted too depending on pricing looks and spec. Can't wait for more details.....

Hope Monte citigo and yeti doesn't make the Monte Carlo model into a bit of a novelty....

novelty ? more like a standard trim level

can't wait till they bring out a Superb Monte Carlo.

novelty ?

....just trying to picture a citigo Monte Carlo.....

With Fabia vRS sales flatlining from the word go, and Fabia Monte sales going through the roof (didn't they sell over 10x what was expected), I would suggest that Skoda are responding to customer demand in bringing the MC mini-brand across the range, rather than any dastardly VAG meddling.

I would be interested in this car as my next Skoda - and moving from a Fab vRS mkII to my current wheels and enjoying the move thoroughly proves that "go" ain't all it seems, at least in my experience.
