S4 Battery Issue

Featured Replies

Looks like my Galaxy S4 maybe suffering from the reported battery issue.

The battery will go from 70% to dead in a couple of minutes and I can see a distinct bulge in the battery shape.  :wall:

Good news is that Samsung have agreed to replace the batteries for free - the bad news is that I have to go into Southampton on Saturday morning to see the Geek Squad where I have an appointment for 9:30.

What isn't clear is if they have the batteries in stock or not.

Have you called them to ascertain that, or will they just replace your phone.............and will the replacement be brand new or a reconditioned unit???

Have a nice time in S'ton.

Visit the Ikea store there.....its BIGGER than the Croydon store

Spoke to Samsung UK and they should just replace the battery - will remove it ready for them and hand it across for the replacement.

Yes we do pop into IKEA from time to time - usually of an Evening when we can get free parking in the shopping centre next door. Raid the food section and I've found that their LED GU Bulbs are pretty good value.

I had this a while ago, if you get chance compare the two batteries, if it's anything like mine the faulty one will be swollen.

I certainly wouldn't charge a bulging battery.

+1, I wonder if they have had any go bang yet, I was shocked when I saw mine.

Not much choice if I am going to continue to use the phone.

The lady at Samsung CS read me out the official statement, I asked her if she could email it to me and she said that they don't have email - yeah right in this day and age  :wall:

Someone in my office had their battery swapped and then the new one popped as well. They are now on their third

I just buy the cheapy "genuine" ones on Ebay for a few quid. I've found that some of them perform better that the stock OEM ones!  :giggle:

I wouldn't YouTube lithium battery explosions then.

I've been lucky so far. One year on and my S4 battery Is still holding up OK..............fingers crossed

I had an issue with my S4 draining battery, vodafone gave me a new battery even though it wasn't bulging, then they replaced the handset - still no change. Then I realised that it had got stuck in a loop scanning the memory card. Killed that process and hey presto, 2 days of battery life again (plus I have a spare from Vodafone)

Well I decided to pop into West Quay Southampton last night, took my phone and the required paperwork, 10 minutes in the "Geek Squad" at Carphone Warehouse and one new battery installed.

Mine wasn't too bad - the guy that changed it said he had seen one where the bulge was that bad the screen had cracked.

Not just Galaxy S4's - my mates Iphone 4s has one doing the exact same and it has cracked the screen.

Looks like my S4 battery was one of the good ones - no issues so far after about a year.

I dropped my S4 in a puddle today :( it sort of fell apart and the battery went flying :( :( But I sort of dried it out and stuck it back together and so far seem fine (apart from some heavy scratches on the metal edging :)

Leaving it in a box for a couple of days with some rice (uncooked of course) or the silicon gel packs is one of the best ways of drying it out properly.

Its not the water that causes the damage, its the impurities in it which damage the chip/circuit connections.

I gave it a good shouting at and dried it out using the fear of being used as a door wedge if it didn't function normally again and it seems to have worked.  :) Well at least for today.

The edging isn't metal, it's plastic. Dropped mine down the loo last week, within 30 seconds the battery was out and a minute after that in some rice. I tried it after 6 hours and the touch screen wasn't working, so put it back in the rice, after another 6 hours, the touch screen still wasn't working. Dumped it back in the rice and tried again after 4 days and it's working fine

My edging is metal?? It does have a clear lacquer over it, or at least over the bits where I have dropped it on the ground

That's what I thought till I ran over my previous s4 by "accident", still worked to a degree afterwards even though it was bent and smashed lol

I have an S4 mini and the other week the phone felt hot and the battery seemed to go down quite fast from about 60% to below 20 % I did take the battery out but didn't notice if it had bulged......

Install gsam and check out what's draining the battery. It showed up a process on mine which was killing the battery.

A bulging battery will also have a high temp which gsam will show
