2nd gear take off

Featured Replies

right firstly I know im in the wrong gear before anyone starts......yes im being a lazy barstewart, yes I should be driving in first gear but lets ignore that for a second.

why oh why when taking off in second gear from stationary does my car feel like it wants to stall. I have 300 pounds of torque on tap why does it feel like it wont pull the skin of a ******* rice pudding when I put the foot down in second gear at stationary. It actually drops the revs. Its like the fuel is getting cut from the injectors.

I catch it because im not a retard behind the wheel that can’t drive however I’ve never owned a car as reluctant to take off from second gear as this one. it honestly feels like an asthmatic child is blowing on the accelerator pedal with a crazy straw when pulling away in second gear.

lol - I've accidently set off in 3rd in my oil-burner VRS.

i have in 3rd as well but **** me it was like tunneling through a mountain with a pencil sharpener

Same. Probably torque limited or something daft in second gear.

I imagine its something to do with engine management linked to the DMF being protected from excess strain. Either that or you are just noticing Turbo lag. Just two possibilities.

If you are little low down in the revs then it won't pick up anywhere fast. but if you take your revs to about 1500 rpm then feed out the clutch but try to maintain this rpm by adding more gas as you raise the Clutch higher and higher. This way you will get a reasonable take off. The reason for it is gearing is set around your 300 tq. So first is set at its best for taking your car from a standstill with little clutch ware but enough speed to get you up to around 30/40 if screamed to redline possibly. I dunno don't often try these things. Must admit if your on a wet road, poo tyres. You can get good smoken wheel spins from a standstill in 2nd gear. Clutch on biting point, then take the revs to around 2000rpm releasing the clutch more and more but by this time you will have your gas to the floor. Good clutch control needed so it doesn't stall. Good advantage If your on a bit of a hill. Not good for the old clutch but if done right and you keep clutch slippage to a minimum as long as it's the wheels spinning and not the clutch slipping your fine. Not advisable to do it but as a experenment and if your ready for a new set of tyres then why not. I've not done this for a good 7 years now. Lol. I've had some good wheel spins going out of round abouts in 3rd up hill wet roads without using the clutch. Hope I've answered your question and not gave you any ideas. Lol. :)
