I want to chip tune my 1.4 TDI, I already have one of these resistor mods:

It reckons I will now achieve 90bhp + and extra 40nm of torque, I am not so sure? However I can confirm a massive improvement, thing is I want more power on the cheap, is this possible?

I know Jabba do a chip to take power to 115BHP + 200lb/ft of torque, however I feel it is rather expensive? Is there another cheaper plug and play alternative?

Jabba also chip ECU's by post but this means no rolling road setup, is this necessary?

Please advise of your expreiences and problems encountered...

Instead of your resistor mod, you could look at a Digital tuning box, made by someone like Dragon (check out www.mrhoot.com) which is about half the cost of a full remap, but almost as good

Mrhoot.com is just the resistor mod in disguise. The digital one is for the 1.9 TDI only :(

Can I install a manual boost controller or bleed valve (along with a boost gauge of course).

The ECU will most likely throw up some alarms if you put a boost controller or bleed valve on.

A remap or chip will get you a little more power but not much compared with a box.

More power on the cheap isn't easy!

A generic chip is fine if you don't have another mods, where as a custom map set up on the rollers will take advantage of them.

The biggest difference between these & a box, is that it will be a much smoother power delivery & a custom remap will give you a choice of how you want it mapping.

Jabbasport are probably the cheapest, especially with the Group Buys popping up from time to time.

Also have a look at Custom Code, Forge Motorsport, Upsolute or Revo.

Have you already fitted the cupra intake (you should also remove trumpet from upper half of airbox and snowscreen below filter to make full use of it), helps with a box (or resistor mod) to cut smoke/improve performance if you turn the fuel delivery a bit higher.. I recon you can't get much more with a standard chip as the GT15 turbo can't take much more boost.. If you want more power than with box better get a custom chip with better injectors / turbo. The best I've seen is 115 bhp from the following company (they've done a lot of mods to achieve this so I don't think you'll get much more with just a chip):

Have you spoken to Jabba about buying through a Briskoda Group Buy? Perhaps a PM to Adrian (SkodiRS) would shed some light.

A plug in will only increase fueling, although this is effective and produces good results it's no substitue for a set up on the rollers where the mapper can change other parameters such as boost pressure. A custom map can also be tailored to suit your needs, if you want all the torque in a lump or spread over the rev range for instance.

I have this engine and you get very good results with just a tuning box and modified intake, trust me. I don't know maybe it's because most of the parts are oversized for the standard output (airbox for example is the same as the more powerful models) with plenty of headroom so you get very good results by just increasing fuelling. You're right however that custom remap is always the best choice if you want to squeeze all possible power from the engine but I doubt a generic chip would give you much extra over a tuning box..

AMF... check it if you like.. there is a thread where one guy fitted it in his fabia.. I also fitted one in my polo.. it fits trust me..

Generally it's not a good idea to run resistor mod/tuning box with a chip.. I suggest you check for example www.tdiclub.com for some basic TDI tuning principle first, then come back with more questions

There you can also find instructions for making a bleed if you like, better check the instructions apply for the 1.4 tdi engine also, I haven't yet looked into this..

Would anyone be deeply upset if I said that ETOS is telling me the AMF (1.4 diesel) uses the same intake connection parts as the ASZ/ATD engines? (pd130/pd100)

Uses the same driveshafts also _IF_ I remember correctly.. clutch/transmission is different though.. The 1.4 shares more parts with the 1.9 engine than you'd first think. You can get PD100 like performance easily so it's a good budget solution if you're not hoping much more power than that..

Yep, custom is best - like said many times earlier in this thread. Would like to see what is the best people have got out of this engine (not anyone crazy enough apparently) with a custom code + other modifications.. I've heard about couple of cars getting near 120bhp but that's about the max.. I guess the gearbox & powertrain are also limiting factors when nearing the 300nm mark and the internal of the engine (pistons/con rods?).. so not really worth it going phase 2?

I used to run a 30 quid resistor mod tuning box on my PD100 which I was more than happy with. I also went out in cars which had been remapped or ran digital tuning boxes.
