EU ruling re- non main dealership servicing

Featured Replies

Hi, got a DMF failure ongoing with 2.0l TD DSG Octavia. Full service history with the last couple of years by an independent. I contacted SUK and got told no contribution to repair costs because it wasn't fully Skoda servicing. Funnily enough I thought it was illegal under EU law.

Got any advice on getting SUK to play fair??

suk dont play fair.

If you dont have 100% sfsh (including before you owned the car) they think you are not a loyal customer.

How old is the car? You might be able to speak to consumer advice about "reasonable amount of time" for the dpf lasting as its not a serviceable item.

It's only illegal if under warranty, not after it expires

The EU ruling only affects the manufacturers warranty. Once you are outside that and into goodwill territory they are well within their rights to tell you to go away. Sorry.

Ah well, got no chance, its a sprightly 7. Had it from new. Skoda asked me to take it to a dealership, which I did and they were so aggressive over the issue that I had to ask for my car keys back so I could leave.

SUK wouldn't have put goodwill payments into it anyway as it's over five years old.

Not exactly sure what you were expecting but youve had a consumable part fail after 7 years. I dont think any manufacturer would do any different.

i think one major issue is that they class it as a consumable part.

This is exactly why people have them removed as its less than half the price of a new one

I think classifying a flywheel as a consumable is hilarious. Don't remember them informing me of that one when I bought it

The electrics are dodgy and the paint is peeling by the side bump strips too. Crock of $#1t really. They made such a big deal about the JD Power results for customer care. Perhaps there is still some mileage in Skoda jokes after all.

skoda uk just wash their hands with you as soon as any warranty runs out and even before in some instances.

If you didnt buy the car new you dont deserve any good will

If the car doesnt have a 100% skoda service history you dont deserve any good will

If you have ever taken the car to another garage bar a skoda main dealer you dont deserve any good will

If the previous owner ever took the car to a non skoda garage, thats your fault and dont deserve any good will

I was even told because my current car is my first skoda that counts towards a lack of loyalty to the brand so more reason not to give me any good will

It does make you wonder what VAG think they are doing, the customer service skoda gives out is unreal

4 posts in, you are really going for it.

A DMF is as much a consumable as your brake pads or lights (lamps/bulbs).

In the old days the flywheel(SMF) was typically a single piece of metal, so did not wear out as such but the shock absorbing systems in a DMF have a life span and depending on driving styles this can vary the same as your brake pads or clutch.

So after 7 years you are well out of luck and obviously any sort of warranty, unless you extended it all this time?

Anyone thinking of buying any car second hand of that vintage with a DMF fitted would be well advised to get it thoroughly checked for the signs a DMF failing or see if it has been replaced.

DMF's will be like cambelts soon where if it has not been done by a certain age/mileage then you may consider walking away as it could be a costly failure!

TBH I got shot of my last diesel as it started showing classic DMF failure signs and after being advised that it would be approximately £1200, Got rid.

7 years old?

So four years out of warranty.

And you think Skoda aren't playing fair.

I had goodwill gestures on my out of warranty non-franchised serviced vRS.

It's how you ask. Calling the car a crock of sh**e would have resulted in the same response from me too.

We've had things fixed for free under goodwill on a six year old Fabia vRS that we bought second hand.  Yes it had a full Skoda service history, but anyone expecting 'goodwill' from Skoda having gone elsewhere for their servicing is being unrealistic in their expectations - the goodwill goes both ways.
