VRS cold start issues

Featured Replies

Hi,

Ever since I've had my VRS its had a bit of an issue with cold starts. When I start up from cold in the morning I have to let the car warm up a little before driving off. If I do not then the car starts to kangaroo down the road and then the revs fall dramatically to 500 or so.

I've had the coil packs changed under the recall and the problem still persists. I've not deleted anything from the engine bay and it's running all standard maps and no modifications. I do know that the secondary air pump probably needs refurbing/replacing as it sounds like a vacum cleaner.

Any ideas before I start to burn money replacing items...? Thanks.

I just started having real rough cold start running so I disconnected the SAI cable and much improved. I do still need to get the coilpack recall done as well though

Rivets will have failed on the SAI pump housing or the pipework has come adrift. Doesn't usually cause cold running probs just sounds horrible. Goosed CTS (coolant temp sensor) would be my first suspect.

I had this. Went away after I changed the cts and thermostat.

I had this for ages, showed no errors. After I fitted a Ebay CAI the problem was still there, but was now showing an error on VCDS, turned out the maf sensor was goosed, changed it, faultless on cold starts now.

Easy to check the MAF just unplug it & if it runs better the MAF is goosed, if it's no different unplugged the MAF is ok, but you will have an intermittent MAF fault code stored in the ECU. No big deal though. I'd still put my money on the CTS being goosed.

Anyone have a part number for the CTS? Is GSF a good place to get one?

Unless its a genuine vag part I wouldn't fit it. I think the aftermarket sensors can fail early. The p/n on my invoice has 059919501A.

Genuine only. When it comes to VAG engine sensors, buy cheap buy twice.
