Non UK driver

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Just a quick question if anyone could make a suggestion or help? I've had a search on google but nothing really helpful has popped up.

Is it possible, or does anyone know of an insurance company that will insure a non UK national for temporary cover on my car? I cannot add as a named driver as the policy requires name drivers to be UK nationals. I "could" try changing to any driver with permission but I'm still fairly sure they have to be a UK national.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

Mike

We might be able to help you, depending on the actual circumstances but please do give us a call.

It would mean you switching the whole policy to us though if we were successful.

Good to know my insurance is up for renew soon so I will give you guys a call! *thumb up*

This insurance system, nothing against the insurers themselves, must be the most moronic idea I've ever heard. Why insure the driver, when you could insure the car instead? Every problem would be solved. Stupid.

Bizarrely the car does have to be insured in someone's name in order to be driven on the road in the UK.

In the Netherlands my insurance covered car all over the EU and loads of countries beyond, anyone with a valid EU licence could drive it of any age also fully comp. I could travel anywhere when I liked and could stay for as long as I wanted. I do like that system. No automatically dropping to 3rd party when driving other vehicles and outside of UK like 99% of UK insurance policies :( Policy holder still named and cover was against vehicle using my driving record and NCB for any discount from that.

In the last 30 years of having policies that allowed driving in Europe not one of them dropped to 3rd party only - all were also fully comprehensive for Europe. but some did limit number of days out of UK.

I couldn't agree more about the points raised above, Insuring the car itself rather than the driver would make it easier.
