Car towing a car?

Featured Replies

Its probably not the engine thats limiting the vrs from towing

Plus you need a license to tow over 750kg without going through many many loop holes

not true, dont advise on potential legal issues when you dont know the truth

what is it then as the vrs is nothing special over std ones?

can you elaborate on that then?

if you passed your test prior to what ever date you should of got grandfather rights and when you swapped to the card and paper from the old paper only licence you should of got B+E on there if not you need to take a test. any one taking a test when the card and paper licence was in had to take a b+e test to tow ANY kind of trl 750kg unbraked and 3.5t max I think, anything over 3.5T> 7.5t requires a C1 licence then to pull a trl you need the +e part again.

something like that?

personally I am fine as I have all licences.  its down to the tow vehicle.  I still don't see why the vRS was never sorted to be a tow vehicle, hell Ive seen a Porsche 911 tow a caravan lol

not like it wasn't done due to it being "sporty" lol. Am I right in thinking the vRS is the same in most ways as the std fabia?

The vRS was not sorted because VAG did not want it to have Towing Weights.

Same with a MK2 vRS Fabia, same engine and drivetrain  & brakes as the VW, Audi & SEAT Twinchargers,

they can tow, and the vRS can not.

If you want to know what cars can Tow trailers select a potential purchase  on Autotrader and scroll down to "Practicality", it shows the braked and unbraked towing weights for that car and if unable to Tow, will be No Details Available in the box.   Not a definitive guide but it does give you a pretty good idea what cars can and can't Tow.

Arn't you close to clive at cn tuning surly he know somebody with a trailer and tow vehicle,

Shame your not closer i would have offered you a hand as i have a brian james car trailer and volvo xc90 to tow it with, oh and trailer licence aswell

You can tow more than 750kg without b+e on your licence jeeez

You can tow more than 750kg without b+e on your licence jeeez

But not if the vehicle is not Type Approved for towing, which the Fabia Vrs isn't!!

are you sure on that?

I don't think so, if you could whats the point in having car and trailers (B+E)

After the 1997 change could tow using 3,500 car + 750kg trailer or up to total train weight of 3,500.

Ie a 1,750 car with 1,750 trailer.

In 2013 they removed the second part of that.

I did not mention a fabia vrs?

If your unladen car weighs 1300kg with say a mam of 1800kg and you wish to tow say a caravan with a MAM of 1250kg your fine because the TOTAL MAM of your caravan is less than the UNLADEN weight of your car and the TOTAL MAM of your whole outfit is less than 3500kg

The b+e part of a licence allows you to hook up a 1500kg MAM trailer, caravan, horsebox to your unladen 1300kg hatchback FOR EXAMPLE!
