"Lumps" inside cubby in front of gearstick?

Featured Replies

Just noticed this the other day and wondered whether it was normal or whether something's been knocked out of kilter. In the little cubby in front of the gearstick (the one with the door which slides open towards the front of the car), the side nearest the gearstick slopes down towards the flat surface inside - where you're supposed to put your mobile phone if you've got the bluetooth plus thing (which I haven't, as it happens). In my Octavia, there's a big lump on this slopey bit where something underneath the surface is pushing up against the underside of it. It's about the diameter of a 2p coin. My best guess is that it's part of the wiring loom for the parking sensor/driving mode buttons - you can sort of push it down and it'll spring back up (though I don't want to do that too much!)

The problem is that the 'apex' of the lump is quite pointy and I keep catching my phone on it when I put it in there - despite the fact I haven't got the enhanced aerial thingy, I've found it to be a useful place to put the phone anyway. I'm concerned that over time whatever it is underneath is going to actually work its way through the material. Anyone else got any lumps/bumps in there, or is the surface flat? I've tried to take a picture but you can't actually see the thing on a photo principally because everything is black!

Am assuming my vRS is the same configuration and nope, just been out to check and no lumps or bumps...

Cheers mate. I may be misremembering but I don't think it was like that when I first got the car - either that or I just didn't notice it. I've just been out to see if something may have been knocked by me changing gear, but shifting the gearstick in and out of gear doesn't seem to result in any movement. It certainly doesn't LOOK like it should be the way it is. Will give the dealership a call - it's not a huge problem by any means but if the material rips it'll doubtless affect the residual value when they come to comb over it at the end of the PCP.

Would be interested to know if anyone else has had the same problem? It's a strange one, I'll admit that much!

Edit - it's a 1.4 Elegance hatch for info, though I doubt spec makes any difference with this sort of thing.
