Raced a Honda S2000

Featured Replies

In my standard Fabia. I wanted to get a bit of footage of it as it has been said I have quite a brisk car, for standard. So once I realised this S2000 driver that I was following had taken the bait - I rushed to get my phone - managed to take a picture instead of filming anything, but in one last vein attempt I got it onto video and managed to film it - but only for about 15 seconds, before changing gear and hitting the cancel button ! DOH !!!!

I do have a few seconds that I may try and download from my phone later - but the gist was this:

I was on my way home along the usual county route, when I came upon a S2000 whilst doing 30 in a 30. He was a blipper. You know the type, back off from the traffic then give it a bit up to the traffic again, then repeat etc. Anyway, I knew the national speed limit was approaching so I got in the appropriate gear and waited for him to go - and he did. I managed to stay with him as we entered the first bend, around 400 yards from the national speed limit sign - we both lifted and entered the chicane at around 60 mph - on exit he got the power down first but my hesitation cost me nothing as a surge of torque lifted me back to his rear bumper, but I was about to panic as it was a straight and I was running fast out of power. I had the windows down as it was quite warm and just heard that pesky vtec just kicking in, before he slowed for a dithering old man in a golf.

At this stage I was excited as I knew the next clear overtaking bit is a up hill dual carriageway and my torque is bound to assist at the very least - so I could see the driver was getting excited and he went for it a little early [i have this on camera] but I nailed it and stayed with him through 3rd then I heard the scream of that vtec and it just walked away, up hill :(

I did take advantage of his early breaking and went round him on the next bend [still 2 lanes], but I knew it was his lack of skill that allowed me to do that -

Ah well, in Chesterfield there is a saying that fits this scenario perfectly. "You know what they say, you can have a pop at ought youth !"

Nice story, I really like the S2000 almost went for one in grey with red leather.

As you say the driver must have lacked skill if you passed on a bend as they reportedly handle superbly with the rwd and 50:50 weight distribution.

Looking forward to seeing the video.

Pesky VTEC indeed...same engine as the CTR... creep on them and think yes yes yes.. then the VTEC comes in and your stop creeping yes yes yes turns to no no no...

lol - yes that was it and some other profanities ;)

andy dont forget about these vids of you and your mates car in battle( it was you wasnt it who was doing them??)

I nearly bought a brand new one... then Mrs Gooch told me we had to buy a house instead :(

There is no way on earth a Fabia could catch, let alone overtake, a well driven S2000. Fantastic cars, great performance and amazing handling.

Controllable on the limit too.

The power band is such that if you push it to the rev limiter you drop back into the lower end of the band on the gear change. Hence, you're never off the VTEC.

Are you REALLY bragging about racing on public roads, and filming it at the same time?

I hope you manage to have serious accident on your own, before you take someone else with you.

Unbelievable.

I think i will get one this lunch time mike - i used to have one but it broke - but another one is required me thinks :)

andy

the 15 quid phone holder from halfords that sucks to your windscreen is exelent for it. holds it firm when driving and then when its slided up it pops over the holder for a clear view.

Same size engine but has 50bhp more than the CTR. Also it's old school vtec not i-vtec like the CTR.

the S2000 is a 2ltr VTEC but has more power than a CTR, the S2000 comes with something nearer 230bhp and revs to 9K rpm.

if driven properly non of the standard skodas in the world would live with it.

good effort though

The S2000 make a great sound when the vtec kicks in, specially with a cold air intake, man does that engine sound great for a 4 cylinder, very cool car. A colleague at work had an S2000, he is a bit of a petrol head as well,so we had a run against each other, naturally this was on my own private highway on ascension island in the atlantic :)

The S2000 before my remap pulled a few car lengths on me, probably 3 or 4 before we backed off as you would expect. But once my remap was done, he could not pull away from me at all, he would scream it to the red line but could not pull any lead on me in a straight line. :) On the twisties he killed me but still gave a quite a good showing for a VAG group 1.8 FWD car, Small caveat though this was in the winter.. with nice cold air. I bet if I tried this in summer with 20 degrees +, he would kill me with that evil heat soak problem.

Sorry if I sound like a boring teacher, but I agree totally to Heebee :smirk:

There is a nice Video around in Germany. Filmed by two brothers out of an Opel Calibra, while overtaking/racing cars on a public road in eastern Germany.

It was in the "Brandenburg Area" which is notoriously known for the huge amount of trees beside the roads.

The film ended with a loud cracking noise as they wrapped themselves around

one of them.

The Film has been released by the relatives for the Police to show it to young

drivers.

Just figure out which distance you go "blind" if you only take a closer look at your mobile for 1 to 2 seconds at a speed of 60 or more miles...

I really don

Nice one..must have felt good to be able to keep up with Honda's most powerful production vehicle

Surprised nobody has put you in for a good bashing though...but of course you have a vRS and not a 2.0

It was an S2000 not an NSX.

It was an S2000 not an NSX.

I thought the NSX was out of production.

NSX will soon be out of production.

IIRC the NSX is still in low volume production.

And they just launched the NSX-R GT, limited to about 10 cars or something and a shocking price tag.

130bhp diesel vs a 240bhp vtec.... ummm dont think so

I thought the NSX was out of production.

Still in production but even if it wasn't it's still a production vehicle.

hesaid himself that he didn't keep up, well he did keep up untill the vtec kicked in. a bit like saying i kept up with that F40 the other day. untill his turbo's kicked in that is.

:)

:) I kept up until he pressed the damn starter button. We were neck and neck. :)
