Upgrading standard radio to satnav

Featured Replies

Good Day All

Has any one out there upgraded their standard radio (mines a "Swing") to a VAG satnav? I have been thinking of installing either a RNS 310 or RNS 315 in my 2012 Monte. If any one has done this, any tips would be very grateful. Also does anyone happen to know if the standard aerial is powered? As if I go for the RNS 315 I will need a DAB aerial adaptor.

Many Thanks

Steve

I'm also rather interested in doing this as there seem to be some good deals on auction sites etc for RNS 315 DAB/Bluetooth units.

I know I'll need a GPS antenna and a DAB powered aerial, but what will I need to add to make use of the bluetooth? Is it just a microphone?

Thanks

(hope you don't mind me getting in on your question!!)

No problem mate, on the Bluetooth question, I believe you will also need a Bluetooth unit and wiring which can add to the price. Do a search on the auction sites! I think it depends on what you want from the upgrade, and how much you are able to do yourself as to the total cost. Which is why we need other folks help and advice - if they have done this. So please help us , if you have done this or know what IS really involved.

Many thanks

Steve

I think the RNS315 comes with bluetooth built in, you just need the mic (i think!)

Looking at the pics of the back of both the RNS 310 and 315, there is an extra black plug on the back of the RNS 315. I think that's where the Bluetooth unit plugs in, but I could be wrong!!

Steve

You can make a 310 bluetooth compatible with a unit.

I think the 315 already has the unit built in and just needs a wire running for a mic.

Maybe thats what the plugs for, a mic?
